An Update of the Save the Harlequin Project

Update:

Approximately 250 pupae will be released onto the selected sites within the next 2 days!

Here are some shots of the pupae :

With more caterpillars pupating within the next few days.

Most of these pupae will be placed at the selected sites for them to eclose into butterflies naturally. Some of the pupae will be kept till they eclosed into adult butterflies for release and also as breeding stocks.

Cheers!

Hi RayDream,

After it was chanced upon by ButterflyCircle member Mr Tang and his brother in late March 06 , I went in search of them, and managed to locate a small colony of the Harlequin at a localized area in early Apr 06.

I have been monitoring them regularly since then, that is how I discovered their habitat was affected by development in Oct 07.

To date close to 400 pupae and Butterflies have been released at similar habitats in Singapore under the project.

The progress of the Project is updated here at Butterflycircle Blog.

Rondo, you have some great shots for a firsttimer!

Rondo,

Agree with James that those are neat shots for a beginner.

My picks go to #2 Striped Blue Crow and #3 Blue Glassy Tiger... not easy to parallel these two with broad wings.

Cheers!

James ,

You are really getting your hang on the T180!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Fabulous shots , dun be afraid to open up more , for that creamy Background, I routinely use F/6.3 or wider aperture, however need to be really parallel the butt to keep them in the DOF.

Terry ,

You really have to blame James for getting you infected with the Butt flu!:bsmilie:

Very nice shots, my top pick is the last shot of the Prosotas dubiosa lumpura (Tailless Line Blue).
:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Cheers!
