Will you buy the 100-400 IS USM lens if you struck grand prize in TOTO today?

No, your samples quality is poor.
i can take better ones with cheaper tele lens.

Provided it can be found :sweatsm:
Is that a bazooka that the military use or is it a camera?

Voted NO.

I prefer prime instead of zoom.

Prime is only good IF you know the exact focal length or can foretell everything. Zoom is for those stuff that you'll never know the estimated distance without actually mathematically measuring it.

I love this lens too, wish to own one so can do more plane shooting. But I am more stuck on getting the 100-400 or 70-300 L as 100-400 is bigger in size, while 70-300L is more compact and gd for travelling.

Do you guys has any advice for 3rd party substitute for this telezoom?
I soon will transfer my Bigma to my friend, and seems I need a telezoom replacement...
I has a Sigma 70-300 before, but it's good to try-out another lens

(I cannot justify the price of this L telezoom)

Well... the closest I can think of is the Bigma-I mean Sigma- 50-500mm...

Not one of the fantastic shot but here is one taken when i rented 100-400L

.
Although 400mm is said to be sharp but i like versatility of 100-400L with IS.

And what about TOTO and buying 600mm, every month save 1k and get this lens in 1 year ;).
Sigma is good but bit soft, i started with Sigma but went to Canon. one of my friend was using 150-500 but later he change to canon 400mm and i see his pictures look more sharper with more detail (just my own opinion).

Agreed for bird watching, versatility is important, especially if you can't predict how far the bird will be sometimes.

Which 400mm is your friend using? F2.8/F4?
