Photos were scanned with the Epson V700 via Vuescan, then adjusted in Lightroom.

Try using Silverfast Ai Studio *_*
you can do a 2 , 4, 8, 16 x scan on the same slide / negative. Picks up more contrast details from my experience..

Vuescan can do that too, I believe they call it passes, but I've noticed little difference when I up the number of passes.

In addition if the film warps just a tiny bit between the 2 scans, the eventual sharpness drops. So after some trial and error I stuck to a single pass. Not sure if Silverfast is better at this though.
