Tried my hands on portraits with large format, after about 50 sheets of film, I still have much to learn

Shot on Speed Graphic, Illford FP4+, Carl Zeiss Jena 135

Please would you do the mei mei some good justice by getting a proper Light box?

Toyo 45
Fujinon 210mm
Arista Edu 400

Think got something wrong with the film leh...only managed to salvage this. Out of 4 shots i took all had fogged edges and one was completely blown (i.e. totally clear)

Used the exact same holders for Shanghai 100 last week and they were fine... sigh. Time to stock up on film i guess!

I was about to ask how did you managed to achieve such a Funky edges?

Light leaks? Arista EDU cannot be so bad right? Were these expired film? Or bought used?

No idea man...I used the exact same holders so i will probably rule out leaky film holders..

The Arista was bought new about 1 year plus ago. Was passed to a friend as a package when i sold my LF setup to him. Bought back the LF setup again and reused the film.

My friend said that the film box wasn't opened so i have no idea how come it turned out like this. I might recheck the container i stored my fixer in ( i used to store D76 in that container but washed it quite thoroughly but the Fixer had a weird yellow tinge to it).

Meh. will probably order some more film just to play safe.

Join us next Saturday to shoot more. :)

more flowers from me...

i saw something familiar, and it is the tonality that make me decide to get a LF camera... the one in the stem in the first pic... i never saw something like that in my digital pictures.. ;p

I just did a re-shoot on this pot of orchid again this morning, trying to get a darker bokeh background this time,
hopefully the result is better then this..

lkkang,

Beautiful B&W photos. Tempting me to go shoot this weekend because of them..!

BTW, can i check if you allow for any compensation for bellows extension? I reckon your bellows is pretty extended cos it looks like you're rather close to the flowers..

you are right, the bellows are very long when I shoot these, almost reaching the end.. so far so good, I have no need to use the macro chart yet.

I am using 210mm and the subject is big enough ( so far ). If I start to shoot those little flowers, then perhaps I will need to use the macro compensation chart.

I normally shoot at F8 ( lens widest is F6.8 ).

There are several locations that is good for flower shoots in Singapore.

- The Botanical Gardens ( orchid garden ) is one of them. But you have to pay to get in.

- Guang Ming Shan has lots of nice orchids also, but the location is not in the favor of the morning light.

do share your shots here :)
