The noise you are seeing is definitely due to under-expose. However, in this shot, the dark areas are meant to be dark because without the dark area, the RED lines will not appear nicely. Personally, I feel that the exposure for this is OK ( although I did not see the real thing ).
Based on this shot, I will say that you can try a 6~8 mins exposure next time.

ok thanks...i think the scanner is trying to pick up details from the road. maybe there are other settings in Vuescan that I have not learn yet. i will try 6 or 8 mins next time. i still trying to find a good vantage point for more curve roads. something like this by Thomas Birke : http://www.birke.net/img/large/tokyo/tokyo-25-preview.jpg

what the exposure time again? seems like the person moved during the exposure but again the shadow of the person is pretty fixed. interesting![]()

Very interesting way to use this paper, a must try! We expect to see a person, but the person seems like a double exposure! Its just freaky.
