regarding some of the posts...i would buy the explanation of the lights except for one thing, the problem was the entire top half of the photo was yellow while the bottom half was true. then next shot woul be the entire bottom half of the photo would be yellow while the top half of the photo would be true. if it were a lighting issue, the whole frame would be tinted yellow, not just either only the top half or the bottom half. :)

it really was a bum lens and the salesman knew it so now it becomes very difficult to buy with confidence from bally, so better not to buy....

hey who said shoe store, i like that

Funny enough I was there today to look for a Nintendo WII with a friend who wanted to get one. A lot of the stores had no stock. We found a set at bally photo for 600. For the extra sports pack with controller, I was quoted $129. this would have cost a total of $729.

Hearing the horror stories I went to a nearby shop to countercheck and they quoted $79 for the sports pack with controller!

In the end, we bought a whole package from gamescore. Console, Controller & nunchuck, plus sports pack with extra controller + 1 extra game was $640!

wow...glad it worked out for you
dunno what to make of this place. maybe someone will get lucky and find a good deal from them, but i will never step foot in that shop again.

that is because your shutter curtains travel in one direction, if you hold your camera
horizontally , the frame will cut horzontally, same for the verticals :) The cycle of light could not be completed thus you only see one half of the yellow light source.

If you allow the shutter speed reduce by half , dun you get the whole picture coloured correctly?

Hi, The half yellow, half blue image is not cause by the 'lens' but rather your high shutter speed. You see the lights they use in the shop, I'm half guessing its fluorescent lights which the cycle is only 60HMZ, so you need to shoot at a shutter speed less than 1/60 to avoid it.

hm. but TS shot at 2.8, it was fine. then he stopped down to 3.5... unless he changed something else, the shutter speed would have slowed down right? so should have less chance of this happening instead of more.

no worries, i like what you are saying,
but with my lenses everything a ok in the shop..with his lens it was nightmare city? I spent at least 45 minutes in there going through my lens, his lens, and only his was displaying that half yellow sheet. so in all of this if it is a lighting issue, a valid scenario you pointed out, shouldn't it have been doing the same thing with my lenses on at the same settings?

he tell me "confirm" as in confirmed to buy the lens before i even try it. he tell me "you have to leave at 2.8, this is 2.8 lens." and when i go to alan photo they tell me the lens he tried to pass off was actually a few years old and known to have color issues. these things point to something fishy...

not discrediting you, but in this case the guy really did try to pass off a bad lens. his tactics, everything about him really had red flags up for me while in there. and once i saw the issues with the lens, i knew why and my gut feeling was confirmed.

i appreciate your insight and will keep in mind the possibility of it being a lighting issue if it hapens again. it's interesting what you pointed out and it is a good point for us to keep in mind...nice, thank you

have a great day :)

yeah, i started at 2.8 since it was a 2.8 lens...so naturally, it would be a higher shutter speed. strangely, 2.8 was ok, then 3.5 and 4.0 it was a mess. i did not change my iso setting at that time so naturally the shutter speed should have now been lower, but afterwards i changed all kinds of settings and it was a hit or miss thing which makes me lean more towards it being a lens that has known color issues...inconsistency with color.

i had (gone now) the images on my CF card and the guy from alan photo said it looks "alien". at first he thought it was a shutter issue which i guess confirms the lighting belief, but when i told him what lens it was, then he said yeah, the lens is known to have some "issues"

anyway, i'll let this rest already, main thing we all have to do at least two things, be knowledgable, and share the knowledge

have a good day....
