Hi guys

wondering wats the setting you guys set for your 5D 7D A100
The color mode, digital FX and LCD brightness

wats the best setting?

the fx i used the one recommended on the guide book, everything normal, with a +1 on sharpness.

plus a -1 exposure, but i guess that's subjective.(actually, -0.5, cos the other 0.5 is for the focusing screen)

On the A-100, all 0 settings for contrast, saturation, sharpness. No EV compensation (adjust according to situation when needed or sometime use manual exposure).

Used to use DR+, now using standard DR as DR+ seems to increase apparent noise on the image.

Flash, most of the time -0.3 or -0.6 ev, sometime 0ev.

Satay16...surprise that you find the minolta always over expose ?

not really always, just that i like it darker. and to compensate for the focusing screen cos some CSers ask sony tech whether focusing screen affects the exposure and they say yes. for normal indoor shoots, i still use normal exposure.

i find that mine always underexposed. or dunno if it is my LCD brightness. i set it as default but the photos always appear brighter than on the camera LCD.

think my flash also got problem. i tried to shoot with my built-in flash but it doesnt seems to be exposing nicely. my pictures often appear dull grey or still under expose, as if my flash fires then my shutter opens in an unsyn manner.

do you guys on the long shutter noise reduction? anyway i found this noise reduction not effective lor, i wait until xiong also still got noise..

Hope this is not OT, but do you happen to be using Sigma lenses?
I read that sony F56 flash on an alpha using sigma lens tends to underexpose badly... Is this true?

quite effective for me. i was shooting a night scene at the harbour, with and without noise reduction makes a difference

nope.. not using sigma lens

Oh, and if so, how to compensate for this? Thanks.

I use 10MP RAW, adobe RGB, Av mode, and -1.0 Flash EV. Shooting in raws gives a greater margin for error for over- or underexposing shots. Flash - that <insert expletive here> Riva unit barely syncs with the camera, always overexposes shots, and even exploded on me once (not kidding) -1.0 to -1.6 is required to save the shot. As for noise... No NR -> Horrible. Got NR -> still very bad :(

this setting only apply when you use in Jpg mode right? I keep everything as per factory setting since I shoot 99% RAW.

i always have trouble getting the right settings when i try to convert the RAWs to Jpeg:bsmilie: the photos often turn out not wat i expected

my cam usually i shoot JPEG Extra Fine, sharpness +1, saturation +1 ...i.e. "PnS mode" ....cut down editing time..haha

Usually, I shoot at JPEG Extra Fine, sharpness +1, saturation +1, contrast +1 and exposure
-0.7 or -0.3 cos I prefer my shots to be slightly darker.

Apperture or Manual mode most of the time, JPEG+RAW, Sharpness and Contrast +1. EV, ISO depends, AS almost always on. LCD brightness tend to be lower to safe battery.

mostly on A mode, saturation +2, sharpness +1, contrast +1. EV 0, flash also 0. tend to use iso zone setting. jpeg extra fine previously but learning to use RAW now. NR on.

7D: Aperture priority, sharpness +1, ISO 400. Flash 0, EV 0. Last 3 parameters adjusted according to light levels and available aperture/ shutter speed. jpeg extra fine, noise reduction on, anti-shake on, spot metering, focus, review off.

but as bro johnston and i found out recently, both our 7Ds behave differently even with the same settings and lens.

sometimes i find shoot in manual mode, photos are better.haha
