Thanks for all the interest in this topic, I was not expecting this much response when I first started the thread.
Anyway, I feel strongly there is a demand for a fair price no nonsense shop to cater to serious photographers who wanna buy equipment. Yes, there is AP and CP out there and some other shops, but what is their svc level and price?
Yes, I am fully aware of the level of svc clubsnappers want, and also the price. I think if we can set up a reasonable size shop, with no employeess, we can match the price of AP and even better svc than CP! Why? We don't employ staff and we are motivated, because we are our own boss!
I think in terms of partners, there will be 2 types, one is the active type, which I need only 2-3 others and the rest all can be silent partners. The active ones will run and manage the shop, deal with customers and suppliers, and they will fork out the majority share of money, but of course they will have a say in the day to day operations and mgt of the business. Those who are silent partners need only to fork out a small sum, say $5K per person but they will have no say in the day to day business nor operations. Those active will receive an allowance plus profit sharing while silent partners will only receive dividends at the end of every year.
In terms of active partners, I think those who are seriously into wanting to manage their own business need to apply. If u are currently in a reasonably cushy job with good salary and no retrenchment in sight, pse don't apply. Also, those with family commitments with young kids and all, suggest u take the silent partner role if u are really keen. Active partners really need to work like shit and have to be prepared for tough work with little returns for at least 6 months to a year. Hence, yr personal savings level must be reasonable to withstand this.
I am sorry I did not make myself clear earlier, what I mean is that those who only want to buy equipment at cost price cannot be active/silent partners. We are in it to make a profit, hence if everyone is to become a partner and buy things at cost price, we will fold in less than a month, paying rental plus rennovations...I think that is not fair to the rest.
I think there is enough of a market out there, plus with all the support shown by fellow clubsnappers, we should be able to make it a viable business.
If anyone is interested in hearing more abt my business plan, feel free to come to my place this Saturday afternoon. Alternatively, if there is enough interest, I may hold a Sunday afternoon session. At these sessions, we will ask each other Qs, so that we can gain a better understanding. I do not wish to discuss further as I do not wish others to know our business plan.
Can I confirm that those who can make it this Saturday/Sunday at around 2 pm, pse email me. Thanks.
