x2... ;p
hehe... just for the fun of it on a slow tue evening (while i watch my baby feeds...):
a) 1 nikon F6 RRP $3950
b) suppose u buy 1 roll of velvia 50 at $10 for 1 yr = $3650
c) 1 nikon Super COOLSCAN LS-9000 ED scanner = RRP SGD5300
d) cost of developing, no printing (per roll is $6) 365 rolls of velvia for 1 yr = $2190
total cost = $15090 vs buying a canon 1dsmkII at RRP SGD 14799. quite similar, eh?
cavaet, of course, is we ignore all the costs of depreciation (which is higher for DSLRs cos of the shorter product cycle) and various start-up costs of owning a FF DSLR (like buying top-of-the-line lenses). also, RRP is not the true street prices of the stuff listed.
my personal thot is dat, for hobbist, its still better to invest in a decent film camera (whichever brand) and a good scanner vs buying a FF DSLR (whichever brand, now or in the future) cos i doubt anyone will earn enuf per assignment to justify the costs of owning a FF DSLR. but, if u are a working pro, the cost advantages of a FF DSLR is much better cos of the faster turnard time per assignment.
hehe... some food for thot for STGgers. dun wanna post this in the other sub-forums cos sure will attract unnecessary flamewars. this idle thot was sparked off by my colleague this afternoon in the canteen. ;p
