Welcome, just speaking from a point of view that anything longer than 200 and is => f/4, you're better off with a 70-200 or 80-200 + TC. Especially if you're into portraits...

I like to shoot portraits as well as aviation photography.

Generally,my concerns is becos I like the AFS80-200 alot,which is great for portraits.
However,the Tokina's 100-300 f4 seems ok also.

buy the AFS300/4 for distance
your 85/1.8 is gd enough for portrait
