Hmmmm, ok... tricky. i want an upgrade of the kit lens but is good for landscapes and buildings... do u know of any other lenses that might suit the bill?

Hate to burst your bubble, the 17-40L although wide, is good for landscapes, but for buildings, you'd be better off with a TS glass. I believe Canon has 2 TS glasses. Check it out.

Alternatively as Ian would enforce, a MF or LF would be better handling buildings & architectural displays.

i tested 16-35 (belong to a manager in my co) vs 17-40 and yes, 17-40 is clear cut the winner.

Actually, there's no 1 for all situation lens... for architectural pics of buildings...pros normally use shift-tilt lens

But for others 17-40 is good enuf.. juz need to correct perspective in PS.
