The thing is.....like what the rest had said...you have to find a certain area and make it your own. For e.g some of the peeps here specialize in portraits and poses, some in streets, some in events, etc. It is quite hard to be a generalist and cover every area equally and excel in it. Find ur own niche or area of interest and stick with it, and excel in it. For e.g espn like shooting pretty women, so he is a specialist in that area. For myself, I'm quite into nature shoots, mainly birds.

Same thing with buying lenses...if you feel you are pretty passionate in that certain area, get the best lenses to go with it....which best fits ur budget of course.

So the 80-200 and my 90 macro is to compliment my interest in macro and sports only...
So DA, best to find out your most shoot area then work on what lens to get...

Yeap ... first the 70-200 sports / portraiture / events the F2.8 aperture is nice enough incase certain places i'm not allowed to use flash... then i'll decide from there again. Just quite sick of using my 75-300 "C" zoom ... picture output is soft / not sharp most of the time ... focusing speed is much to be desired as well :sweat:

its more than f2.8 to get a gd bokeh.
I can use my kit lens f4.5 to get bokeh leh..just zoom to 50mm f4.5, close up on the model and make sure the background is far away...

you must remember .. canon's "C" lens really cannot make it.. nikon's lenses are far sharper...even for a kit lens.... colours and details are not vibrant or not sharp at all.

Actually (this is a purely personal thing I believe), I prefer working with small, light lenses (ie. primes) for portraiture shots, both outdoor and studio. E.g 50mm f1.8. 85mm f1.8 etc. 70/80-200mm is more for indoor work or when you are fixed in a stationary spot where u cannot move much, thus more ideal for events and stage.

Aiyah....you sound as if 90% u gonna get the lens liao rite...its just a matter of time....must set yourself a target date lar...

Came across this at FredMiranda forums...great analogy and it is indeed all too true...can't agree more with him...

Spending $1000 on a body and then skimping on the lens is false economics. The lens is what makes the camera, not the body. The body is just a box built around the sensor. Granted, there are bells and whistles you can put into the body, but you're pressing the shutter for the light coming into the body through the lens. If the light is going through $50 of glass and hitting a $1000 sensor, your photo quality is going to be somewhere in between. I wager it'll be closer to $50 of quality, if you can measure it that way.

Also, when you buy a lens you're actually making an investement. A good lens today will be a good lens in 10 years. The physical and mechanical properties of the lens and glass are being improved at a fraction of the rate the technology in the body is changing. Your current dSLR body, like with any dSLR, will be a doorstop in 3-5 years. The lifespan of a good lens will be much much longer.
