Well said bro.

Most of us aren't loaded with cash, so we make do with what we have. Sometimes it doesn't make sense to spend so much on something that is only a hobby.

For e,g macro lens. Is it something u r really passionate in? Do you like shooting closeups of insects/flowers? Is SBG/AH your regular haunt every weekend mormings? If so, den get the lens. If not, maybe consider ext. tube for the rare occasion u wanna shoot macro. Cost effective and cheap solution.

Yeap, i'm thinking along that line too .. just get a ext. tube and since got good lens .. just use them.. more cost effective.

Lucky I like to shoot girls only
Yah. Shoot gals just buy a $150 lens can liao (i.e. 50mm f/1.8). Best is dun go to nature/bird shooting. The lenses alone already can kill you. Not just the size/weight but the freaking cost.

My twa leng kong think gotta wait a long while more... :embrass:

The thing is.....like what the rest had said...you have to find a certain area and make it your own. For e.g some of the peeps here specialize in portraits and poses, some in streets, some in events, etc. It is quite hard to be a generalist and cover every area equally and excel in it. Find ur own niche or area of interest and stick with it, and excel in it. For e.g espn like shooting pretty women, so he is a specialist in that area. For myself, I'm quite into nature shoots, mainly birds.

Same thing with buying lenses...if you feel you are pretty passionate in that certain area, get the best lenses to go with it....which best fits ur budget of course.

True la ... but after encountering lens hunting in the dark really cheesed me off that night ... i'm dead set to switching to something higher end. So no matter what, the 70-200 would be on my buy list, i'll not follow my wishlist though ... definitely i'll try not to overlap, been told about that countless times.

For now, i feel that i use ranges around 17-300 most often, shooting portraits now and then, landscapes/people... ... another thing is once purchased, i won't be selling so that's why i guess i'm trying to settle on the better lenses as espn said before - get the best and just don't look at anything else.

lens hunting in the dark is dependent on many factors apart from a nice big f-stop. eg. in the case of a D30, its an inherent problem dat the cam hunts in low-light. so, even if a user sticks a 50/f1.0 lens on it, it will have problem hunting. like i said, sit back and review on wats u're shooting most often, review ur current setup and think of a work-around first b4 going off to buy some gee-whizz gadget.

btw, 17-300mm.... just abt covers everything and anything. i was reading bryan peterson's book (more like re-reading) "Learning to see creatively". after reviewing his own shots over the years, he came to a conclusion dat most of his shots (commerical or otherwise) was taken with a 35-70mm/f2.8 lens. so, mebbe u ought to do the same and do a serious review on wat u shot so far and see if its necessary to go buy the lens? mebbe it will save u a couple of thousands, which i shld have done b4 buying the f4L.

The lenses do that much, there's a lot more behind bird shooting than just having big mamas, right Garion? ;)
