Selling photos on stock photo sites

How much post-processing is normally allowed for stock photos?

Levels adjustment, contrast and some saturation adjustments are welcomed but don't sharpen since most designers using the pictures will want to sharpen themselves and if you've already applied an USM, the pic is going to look awful.

Most agencies that I submit to will reject if you use the special effects filters on PS.

Thanks for the info! :)

agreed. they always look out for noise especially..u wouldnt want to buy a noisy picture if you're a customer. noise like other things can be added in. :) they want the 'raw' photo

Great info...

Here's a link on dreamstime that lists down the reasons why photos get rejected:

Besides that, I'd like to ask:

How would the models benefit if stock photos with them on it gets sold? :dunno:

Didn't you pay your models and they in turn sign the model releases for you to use and publish their photos?

I guess if a photographer has 6 wives he will save a lot of model fees. :bsmilie:

6 wives? 6 tons of troubles, everyone want one piece of you, you will Rest In Pieces very soon.

Hmm... So in this case the photographer arranges with the model on the payment? I was checking dreamstime's website, looking for agreements that touches on the topic of how much a model should be paid etc etc... I guess that is the question I've been needing to ask is:

How much do you pay the model?

Besides the usual fees, like commissions if his/her picture gets sold.

:dunno:

don't think you can afford those professional models, once you told them about the usage, the charge will be rather high, cos will add the loading on top the hourly rate..

but even you offer the commissions in future sales of your stock images, don't think they will be interested, cos no one is going to manage it for them.

I've read from pro stock shooters that it is bad practice to agree to split income from sales of photos. It is messy and it is going to drag on for years.

You can pay the model from $1 to $1,000 as long as she is prepared to sign the model release.

2 free-lance models from Singapore told me that a top stock agency and a pro stock shooter both in Singapore pay low fees to models. I guess it doesn't take too much intelligence to work out why.

get your friends like me..if not shoot them from the back

For stock photo, any face that can be seen must have model release.

Any famous brand can be seen , out right rejection.

correct...even buildings that are famous, landmarks included same for rejection..piak in the face haha

A lot of stock shooters will try to work with models on a TFCD basis, particularly if the model has little or no real modelling experience. In this case it is probably a pretty good deal for the model since they will gain from the photographers experience. For models with some experience, it is good and only right to pay them but of course, the less you pay the greater your end profit.

Some models like to see themselves in ads, others are horrified when they appear somewhere and it's not quite what they wanted to see. Well, if they sign the MRF then that is what might happen and they should expect it. I have found that friends who have volunteered and seen themselves in ads get really excited but models less so.

Going to agencies is not going to really be an option since the agency, once it knows it is for commercial basis, will really up the rate. And of course, sometimes the more 'normal' looking your model, the better it will sell. It is more important to have a model who can 'act' out different situations convincingly rather than a very fashion-orientated model.

So you want us to pay $49.95 before we earn a single cent? :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

No lah, the link to the other photoweb site is what i talked about.
