Dont think so, im using a calibrated monitor and calibrated photoshop, but my JPEGS still say uncalibrated. I wouldnt worry to much, as long as they look good on the web, they are fine.
Yup. Agree. Except for thr initial hiccups, everything shld be quite smooth. You should worry more about other issues such as subject matter, grain vs noise, composition, etc.
Make sure your file size is at maximum size, focus (do not use sharpening tools!), camera at default setting. Images should be already 99% when its out of cam. If you do excessive PS, you might run into other problems.

99% , Im going to have to disagree with that, if your shooting RAW (which you should be) then your images will probably only be about 50% ready for stock. Excessive PS only really relates to over filtering and artifacts.
Yup. You are right. If you are shooting RAW, u need to devote more time to it.
99% of my shots are OOC (Out of Cam) unless the obvious PS ones. Differnt styles for different folks la.

1. is it okay/legal to sell 1 photo (of course, original and shot by yourself ) over different stock photo websites like dreamstime/istockphoto/sxc ? pretty confused about photographer rights of the image. heard about perpetual rights and all..
2. does the photographer retain the rights of the image ( including uploading for personal portfolio use ) even if that particular stranger does not allow it? not talking about illegal ( like nude etc ) photos but in general like candids on the streets. or is it true that everyone that you shoot, you must obtain a model's release?
3. is there any local & trusted stock photography website that i can upload images to? i'm asking this because i would prefer the payment to be via ibanking rather than paypal. paypal is rather troublesome and if i'm not wrong, the $ will be denominated in USD?
do correct me if some of my beliefs are wrong. thanks!

yes, as long as they are not checked as exclusive to a certain agency or you are not an exclusive contributor

as long as you are using their faces for commercial purpose like these, you need the release, otherwise anything that you shot in public is yours to keep for personal use.

not that i know of. most successful agencies are global and has a worldwide market. Local agency wont survive leh.. you shouldn't be overly bothered by payment because paypal is foc, the $ is in USD but you once you cash it into your account, it will be converted at the stated present xchange rate. I think, there is a paypal service with SGD. I like the USD because then you can buy online at USD without having to worry inferior SGD

oh okay, so if i put it on portfolio, it's still considered for commercial purposes right?
the problem with USD is that conversion to SGD will definitely lose out quite a bit. but ur idea for shopping is pretty good, didn't think of that. haha.
so after 10+pages of discussion, which stock website has actually the highest payout rate? only know that istockphoto is known to be very fussy about images.
Portfolio - ok. But forget about putting it on stock websites. You need a release form. Period.
USD - why do you care. You get paid; and you need to decide to get money into your account. Either cheque (takes ages, and the bank charges you a big fee) or Paypal (about 5 days, but also charges you money).
Payout rate - depends on you. If you are good - you make many anywhere. If not, no money. Yes, istock is picky, but so are others. You learn in the process; and it is not difficult to push you acceptance rate to 80+%. You just need to know what you are doing

i oni used dreamstime and fotolia now. and fotolia has a very fast (i mean bleedingly fast) approval time. once i uploaded one foto at 10pm, it's approved at 8am the next day. dats fast.
i briefly read through the whole thread - seems that most people only subscribed to 2 sites. why is that the case? i mean, no harm subscribing to ALL available sites on the net right? can make more $ at no extra cost to you..
but seems hard to hit usd199 for a newbie right?
by the way, what is the fee for? paying out from paypal to your local bank account, OR from stock website to your paypal account?

alright, but which website actually gives detailed feedback for your rejected photos? e.g. you should leave that feet out of the frame, rather than drop-down comments like poor isolation/too noisy for artistic feature etc etc. i know there's C&C in clubsnap but is there any good website which does exactly that? i'd be able to learn more with comments from the pros.
depends on how good you are. some can make a couple of hundred bucks in their first month.
if you want to withdraw an amount that is below USD$200, then you need to pay a dollar or two as the transaction fee; if you withdraw more than USD$200, then you don't have to pay that fee. this fee applies when you withdraw your funds from your paypal account to your local bank account. When you are paid by the stock sites, no fee is involved. do keep in mind that for a FREE paypal account, you have a limit of USD$500 monthly withdrawal limit.
approval time varies from site to site; and from time to time at the same site too. the fastest ever approval I got was from shutterstock. my photos were approved in a matter of <3 hours.
thanks for the info. did some research on paypal and found there's another 2.5% spread for currency conversion..darn. lol.

tell me if i'm correct - for stock photos, you get a small cut from every photo that people choose to download. that's how it works right? just to be sure.
dont judge the books by their cover, some subscribe to more than 2 for sure, i am guilty of 6 with 3 being inactive cos i dont have time for them LOL
wait till you have that amount to withdraw, patience is a virtue.
theres no fee withdrawing from stock site, the only fee is if you are withdrawing form paypal less than 199 as far as i know but you can always accumulate your credits until one lump sum that can put a bigger smile on your face Similar threads
