Hello all

Was browsing thru quickly, and below is my quick take on the acronyms put forward so far. (Pls keep an open mind with rgds to my comments)

Looking at the suggestions so far (prism, primes, etc etc), I'd be put in a pretty tight spot in explaining to my future kids (or anyone for that matter) what those letters represent/stand for.

"So...you're affiliated to PRISM? What does 'R' stand for?"

"Oh...'R' stands for 'Fotografi'"

Note: Razor...not a personal 'nitpick' on you and your suggestion...I just wanted an example.

To be anal about it, acronyms are just that - acronyms - the short-form representation of something longer. In most situations, it's the first letter of the words forming a longer, proper name. Though breaking/bending the rules/norms is good/encouraged (and may sometimes work), I personally feel it may not be suitable in this case (for reasons illustrated above).

That said, the organisation will and should be known for what it stands for(running principles), and what it delivers (as opposed to 'what it sounds like') - I am quite certain KPMG, BP, SIA, PWC are all not fanciful acronyms, but they are most definitely brandnames to be reckoned with.

Finally, my suggestions:
The name of the association be changed (I remember vaguely during the discussion that it can be changed? Apologies if I remember incorrectly...)

Malay Photography Association of Singapore (MPAS) - Persatuan Fogografi Melayu Singapura
Malay Photography Club of Singapore (MPCS) - Kelab Fotografi Melayu Singapura
Association of Malay Photographers of Singapore (AMPS) - Persatuan Jurugambar Melayu Singapura

Rgds
Nizz

Harlow semua,

Reading the past threads remind me of acronyms used in the army and how neo-classically our minds are configured to having acronyms after serving NS. POP,ORD,ROD and etc etc to name a few.

Not to offend anyone, afterall, we are a handful and having an enemy less is much of an acquired trade. That being said, the acronyms that have been brought forward are interesting. But perhaps a little uninteresting to explain when someone asks what it stands for. Of course, it is an opinion. I would favour an acronym that has a professional feel towards it. One I would be more than happy to be a member, affliated and work with the association.

Perhaps its innate after serving time in the army, but still, its just my humble opinion. Perhaps again, its my downside for not listening properly. (Eardrums are bad after not having earplugs when your buddy fires SAW and M16 rounds next to you) Have we decided on the name of the association? I feel an English name makes us move along with the times.

Just like AMP, "Association of Muslim Professionals", english brand but still sticking to its roots. Whether one favours that association or not, the name itself has an edge or facade to it. And I would like to be affliated or eventually be a professional in photography in its essence. Hence, the name, I would favour should have a professional taste to it. Again its just my humble opinion. My apologies if i have offended. It's just my two cents worth.

Cheers
Muzz

P.S. Kalau tak puas jugak, aku boleh belanja kopi lah. Hehehe

hmmm.. interesting comments. I guess its like putting a name to a person. But how that person behave or produce would then gives the name the character... opinions and first impressions to others.

We are still at infant stage. Better to throw more opinions and comments so that whatever that will be decided is a well thought decision and some sound logic behind it.

:)

Keep it coming, guys!

hi Guys

terlebih dulu saya minta maaf ya .

i've been askin myself , Is it a necessary to change da current name ?

Persatuan Fotografi Melayu Singapura (P.F.M.S)

well da current name should b fine . instead of thinking of new names y not stick to da current ones.

for me we should think abt how to make this project work n wat are the contents we gonna put inside , to make it more interesting n bring in more friends of da same interest .

it's just my 2 cents worth of comments . my apologies if i might haf offended anyone down here .

thanks n regards

Just something for you guys to take note of.

Seems to me that it is one & the same society. Only the address has been changed to, I believe, his own home address.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for us to contact him so that there would be no duplication.
