r32 said:Thanks for the close-up, Wai. The way the front of the lens is constructed leads me to think that the lens is not a constant length lens, but it should have a non-rotating front element though.
Wai said:why do u think so? i dont think the front will extend like the 24-70, look at this pic and take note of the place where the hood is mounted

then look at the pic for 17-40...u will notice the 24-105 is more like the 17-40, 17-40 got internal zoom and internal focus

Totally agreed that 77mm is the standard for Canon.USM said:I beg to differ. Luckily it's a 77mm and not other funny sizes. This is to in line with all the existing L zoom or some of the prime lenses, like 16-35, 17-40, 28-70, 24-70, 70-200, 100-400, 28-300, 300 f4, 400 f5.6.

And we'll soon see lots of 28-135 in B&S. Ha ha ha...
user111 said:dude the 17-35 and 16-35 are not that bad... but still a step behind the AFS17-35 hehe.
now we have 17-40L vs 16-35L
and
24-105L vs 24-70L
its sure to cause a lot of dilemma decisions lol

Before it was taken off, the website had also the specs sheet for the 24-105mm f4L IS, and it was stated at 670g, which is lighter than the 24-70 f2.8L (~950g). I think it was discussed on the 1st page that this lens is lighter than the 24-70. See this link: http://forums.clubsnap.org/showpost.php?p=1481055&postcount=17+evenstar said:Will most prob be heavier than the 24-70. Looks like the lens barrel will move as you zoom, just like the 24-70, but 24mm will be the short length while 105mm will be the longer end...(for prosumer lenses, the white dot beside the focal length mark means that the lens will be shortest at that focal length...)
Does this mean that the lens will stick out of the lens hood when at maximum zoom? (If the lens hood is the same as the 24-70mm)
