Can we have a sticky thread for the non canon/nikon forums for B&S items?

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=307492

We used to have a thread like that until some moderator closed it down.....

The search function in CS seems to be very fickle all the time and I have scroll through the tons of threads to manually look for olympus items.

example, the advanced search page is unable to find this thread when I search for olympus in the B&S (lens & flashes).

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=306964

I am not too lazy to do a search but there must be a working search engine first right? Sometimes the search engine works, sometimes it doesn't....

Can you elaborate on what you entered as the search words?

For example, I used "Lens Olympus 200mm" and the thread you mentioned is right at the top of the search results. The search terms worked in both the Quick Search box as well as in the Advanced Search.

I just used "olympus" as the search word as I only want to see what olympus lens are for sale since I own E510.

I used the advanced search page (limiting the search to the len B&S forum) as I remember there was some problems with the quick search some time back

But it misses out quite a number of olympus items.

I am not sure if it is a good idea but instead of the current 3 forums of

cameras
lens and flashes
others,

we can have 4 forums
cameras, lens and flashes (canon and canon mount)
cameras, lens and flashes (nikon and nikon mount)
cameras, lens and flashes (pentax, olympus, sony, 4/3rds mount)
others (filters, bags, etc)

My PERSONAL opinon is that this seperates the items better for everybody. Of course, I would wish to have a specific forum for 4/3rds but maybe too tough on the resources.

Have the above setup will benefit all CS users I think. Canon and nikon users have their own forum so no need to scroll through the OTHER brands stuff. The minority brands have a common forum free from the SEA of C/N threads..... everyone is happy.

On the flip side I guess if someone is looking for a generic P&S it will be harder but for 80% of the crowd here who owns a dslr, brand division is much better as most of us when looking in B&S are looking for a SPECIFIC brand of DSLR, lens, flash.

just my 1 cent. maybe the mods can make a poll to see if people like this division?

at least canon not so bad lah. you slowly look, around 40% is canon ;p

imaging you looking for olympus..... like 5% only, looking for needle in haystack slowly....

I still hope the admin can let us minority brands have a sticky thread in the equipment forum as to make life MUCH easier for us (you don't know how much time I spend upping my thread cuz NOBODY can see it after a few hours....). Even with a working seach engine (which there isn't at the moment), a sticky thread is so much more convenient. It is just a SINGLE sticky and won't clog up the forum or anything.

We have noted the feedback on the search issues and we are investigating implementing a better search engine which will hopefully alleviate the two main (and inter-related) issues with the current search engine implementation which are server resources and search results. More accurate search results requires exponentially more server resources.

In the meantime, we have given the go-ahead for the individual section moderators to maintain a thread for members to post the WTS/WTB links to their threads (or others threads) in the relevant Buy & Sell section to highlight their offerings. Please note that only links will be allowed and not all the details as the thread in the equipment section is only to be used as a pointer to the actual Buy & Sell thread.

I just discover a work-around. You have to specify to search for threads 1 week and newer. Than you get most of the hits. Dunno if you get 100% but it is a MARKED improvement.
