Looking forward to it. :)

I'll try my best to give a short write up too! I'm not too used to it though, usually I just post and let my shots do the talking, but I guess some background info would be good as well.

Behind-the-Scenes post - Telok Blangah Estates

It was a beautiful morning that day, and the wispy clouds were already visible early during the blue hour. Since the clouds seemed to point into the middle of the frame, I decided to add them into the composition as they complement the foreground HDB flats quite well, leading my eyes into the scene.

For this, I did a 3 shot vertorama to encompass both sky and foreground flats. A 1.2 soft Hitech grad was used to control the exposure in the sky and to keep it nice and blue. The exposures used for this vertorama were all single shot, non-blended or HDR-ed as I could capture the entire tonality of the scene within the shot (dynamic range of the D800 helped) and stitched in Autopano Giga before being exported to Photoshop for tweaking with Nik software.

The set-up consisted of a Manfrotto superclamp (mini-review here), an Arca-Swiss B1 and a Benro pano-head.

Exif: f/10@ISO 100, 25s. 22mm on a Nikon 17-35mm
I had to zoom in a little instead of using the widest end of my lens as the corridor was recessed.

408. City by the Bends

I'm not too crazy about the distortions in the buildings but the clouds and foreground are killer! :)

I was at this location with a 15mm but didn't remember I could get every building into the frame. I should go back again.

#408, lovely clouds!

Yeah, the clouds were moving really fast that day!

Haha, thanks! Yeah, I had to use the Samyang 8mm fisheye to get the skyline into the frame. Tried correcting the distortion, but it was proving to be too tedious. I might attempt a pano for this to get all the verticals straight next time.

I finally made an account on 500px. There's not many photos up there right now, but I'll be adding more in time to come!

Nice! I see Fusionopolis and Singtel tower. This is somewhere in Ghim Moh / Buona Vista?

ahh ok, I see the sewer lifting station at the extreme right. I know where this is :)

Haha, yeap! It's from the block directly facing the new Ghim Moh estates. I had to do a multi-row panorama to compensate for the distortion and to get the entire scene into the frame. A tilt-shift would be really handy! ;)

I see you've linked me there but don't really see the difference it would make to me compared to flickr so i hadn't been using it! Lol.

Haha you should! I dropped by Chong Pang as my aunt was living nearby, so decided to explore the neighbouring estates for a sunset view. Glad you enjoyed it!

I was visiting a relative nearby at Yishun Central that day, and decided to bring my camera along since I had initially wanted to head to Toa Payoh. However, the rain in the afternoon was unrelenting, and so I put off my plans. However, the rain did lighten up and the skies cleared up towards the evening, though it was too late to head down to Toa Payoh. I decided to do a quick recce around the area to search for vantage points with a clear view of the sunset sky. Fortunately, I chanced upon this block at Chong Pang!

For this shot, I had to do a six-tile multi-row panorama in landscape orientation in order to get the street into view. I decided to process the shots with the afterglow of the sunset as I preferred the range of tones and colours in the dusk sky. In order to control the highlights in the sky, a 0.9 Hitech reverse grad was used. A 0.6 Lee soft grad was reverse-mounted to control the street lights.

Perhaps not the best place to capture such a scene, due to the trees in the foreground, but it was the best I could find in the immediate vicinity. I might drop by again to explore the area in more detail.

The set-up consisted of a Manfrotto superclamp (mini-review here), an Arca-Swiss B1 and a Benro pano-head.

Post-processing wise, I stitched this panorama with Autopano Giga and used Nik Software for colour adjustments.

Exif: f/8@ISO 100, 10s. 17mm on a Nikon 17-35mm
