Why would you need a Tripod? Just stand there and wait.
Keep your camera low and only raise it when necessary. Know how the frame and picture before you even raise the camera.
You can either avoid eye-contact afterwards and stare into blank space, or say hi to them.
I basically look for a good location with good light, then stand and look around in all directions for any potential subjects. Then when I see a good subject, I wait for the right moment until they are near enough and at the right light, then i raise my cam and click.![]()
the problem with street photography is sometimes people (your subject) tend to avoid you if your cam is pointing at them :bsmilie: on worst cases, some will give you a "killer" stare or even get mad and will demand you delete the photos. having a cam mounted on a tripod, either with remote or shutter release cable, will somehow help capture unsuspecting subject. we'll that's just my thought![]()

btw what lens do you usually use for the street stuff? the bokeh on these pictures is really soft and exactly right for these shots haha
Another very close encounter. Right after I took this shot, she had this very startled look towards me... my heart raced as I slowly stepped aside while she walked past me.
No cropping involved, taken with an 85mm.
