hi may i ask if these shots can be done with a canon 400D, as i dun think mine has spot metering.
and what kinda lens would u recommend me to get if i am interested in doing street photography?

pls advice!
thanks!
Hi adrian, you can have this effect with your cam by adjusting the exposure accordingly. Read this
article for a better idea.
To try out this technique, you can do the following.
Experiment with it at home first>
1)during the day when the sun is out, point the camera at your open window. Switch to MANUAL MODE.
2)make sure the open window occupies less than 1/4 of your viewfinder. The other 3/4 should be your room(which is much darker than the bright outdoor view of your window)
3)purposely adjust shutter speed/aperture/iso so you see your cam's metering is showing the pic will be dark.snap a pic.
4)if the window view is still overblown, adjust accordingly so you get a nice exposure at the window. when that is achieved, your room will be very underexposed. This will be the same effect as "spot metering".
This will work, just that you may need a few mins to set up the right exposure while out on the streets.
While doing candid streets, you can adjust shutter/aperture/iso by using lighted ground vs shadowed ground as your setup area. Then just wait for someone to walk into the light, snap a pic and see if you adjusted correctly.
Hope my explanation is ok :sweatsm:
