Nikon Singapore recommended retail price for the SB900 - $749 at today's D700 official launch.

HTH.

haha, i think im expecting the price of sb800 to go down with that low SRP.

2 sb900 can easily handle any outdoor shoot. I believe it will work wonder with a softbox.

You are right. Already using 2 x SB800 with photoflex softboxes and they are a breeze to set-up and use. No need to look for power source. Good for client with limited budget or etc.

The SB900 would be a step-up ;p

no forgetting it can zoom up to 200mm .. 20m away subject no problem ;p

from my experience, sb 800 or be it 900, will NEVER be comparable with a head + powerpack.

that having said, i'm still buying the sb900, solely for it's 200mm reach.
:)

 should we do a test together.

no need to test... there will be situations where SB900 cannot match a powerpack... one fits into a pocket, the other you need a assistant wallah to carry around... obviously one would be more powerful than the other... sure, some setups can use a SB___ type flash, but more difficult lighting conditions you would need a powerpack... and in other setups, SB___ type flash would be far more appropriate...

sb800 is rated aprx. at 80-100W, its not on par with most of the lower power strobe. of cos the sb will definitely be useful as long as u do not require that high power output nor result like what strobes give with those huge softbox etc.

correct, hotshoe mount flash only have that much of power, if more power needed, have to look for quantum Q flash liao, but Q flash it is not a hotshoe mount flash.

did I see wrongly??

SB800 GN is 38 (35mm @100ft)

and the SB900 is only 34 (@100ft, never state at what focal length, but standard is 35mm)

it doesn't matter at wat focal length..GN already tell u the 1/1 full power..

of course we are looking at fully power output, yes it does, since the GN will change when the zoom head set at different focal length. so you need to compare at the same focal length setting.

actually want to learn from her. Her studio lighting is not bad.
how can you say not bad?? for what I see is far better than many people liao.
