yeap...haha...huge a bit la...hahaha...but darn useful

DAMN!

I'm VERY afraid to go down this SB800 + SB600 path, because the BBB virus will grab a hold of me once I see what Nikon's CLS can achieve! :)

be prepared to get grabbed...haha

Pardon the OT but a SB-800 on a D40X? That must look really cool! :bsmilie:

The SB-800 already dwarfs my D90! :sweatsm:

Haha actually it's not a bad match at all... I'm using the SB800 on my D40X and it balances quite well... But more importantly, it delivers the goods.

Just don't try to hang the camera around your neck. :bsmilie:

Hmmm..... SB800 on a D40x ? Should I hold on to the flash instead of the camera then ? ;p lol

It's not that bad! I've used such a configuration before. It's a little top-heavy, but that's all to it.

Hahahaha would the SB800 hit my face in this configuration?
I'm thinking of an analogy for this...
Maybe 19" rims on a Chery QQ??

ok enough OT already ;)
Just wondering if anyone has used the D80 pop-up flash with an SB600/SB800 as remote/slave.
How does this configuration work for you? Does the pop-up flash provide sufficient front illumination, if any?
tks for your inputs!

hmm...that's true  If you're using heavy-ish lenses, guess it'll balance pretty well :D

I use the D90 pop-up and yea, if you just need it for a little fill-lighting (at maybe 3-5m from the camera) then it should work ok ;)

Of course, the pop-flash is really tiny light source and it gonna give disgusting results :p
So investing in one of this should give you waaay better results ;p

Should cost more than $18(a imitation one, not the gary fong one which is ridiculously priced) ;)

thanks for the prompt response!

hahaha looks like one of those 'bird-flu' masks for my flash.

I guess the only way for me to know is to.....
b-b-b-buy the sb600 first and try my el-cheapo version of cls with d80's pop-up.
and then if that doesn't give me the results I want, then it's
b-b-b-buy again, this time body-mounted sb800... :o

:bsmilie:! never thought of that, haha

well, why don't you rent it first?

and don't worry, once you work around the limitations, you'll realise that the 'el-cheapo' cls and give you pretty good images ;)

imho, i really think it depends on your usage, if you're using for normal, casual indoor photography, then go for the sb400.. the functions should suffice. it's cheap and the size is really good! doesn't intimidate the people around you. lol. which is what i like about the sb400 cuz u can take it along with you to almost anywhere.

however, if you wanna go for fierce flash photography then go for the sb600. :)

agree with you. I now own both the SB400 and SB600, and I guess I'll be using the SB400 more often, especially when going out to friend's place, or out for dinner, etc.
Don't want to scare everyone with a big flash on a big camera. I know most CSers will be thinking "D80 + SB600, big meh?", but none of my friends are CSers...! :)

Did try a little bit of wireless flash just now (just bought my SB600 from fellow CSer). The D80's pop-up and SB600 combo work quite nicely together. I get even illumination of my living room. Will try some more. Looks like I don't need to get SB800 for now. ~phew~
