Sarajevo to South Dalmatia rejoiced (H series)

These two are my favs... I love the lighting on #57..

for #20, did you take this picture with instant reaction or you saw them flying towards you? I will be so excited if I can get this kind of scene.

But I cant help but to think what if the birds decided to rain bombs when I'm shooting..

the birds flew in circles for at least 10x or more. i wait when the birds are in desired composition and took a number of them over span of the few circles made....

and they do bomb. i've risked myself but didn't get it.

Very nice photos! Enjoyed it alot

Y do u have a 민 logo on the pics? Curious coz its in korean ;p

that's my name. i like the geographic appearance of hangul character. the signature are designed to be part of the piece.

dubrovnik city wall. anno 1834 i think probably means "Anno Domini" in Latin,
which means in the year of 1834. dubrovnik, also known as ragusa, was once
independent as a country between 1300s and 1800s, but by 1830s became
part of the habsburg austrian

house builders, stari grad of hvar. i think he usually wear a t-shirt, but today,
he is in singlet. and no, i didn't process his face/neck, arm/forearm separately.
it works in three phases, one man bricks from ground to lorry, the other use a
stick to bring the hollow-out bricks from lorry to the window on 2nd floor where
the third man waits.

mostar. summer time. in the gloomy evening, even such is a little luke warm.
isn't as chilly as i hope to be. mistiness will also be good but there isn't. it
didn't have a storm after this. only about 1-2hr later start to have drizzle....

I like the composition of this picture..

I've a question, not trying to criticize the pic but just trying to learn different possibilities and how it affects a picture..

When you took this pic, did you anticipate their actions? or its a "moment" thing?

Will it be better if the 1st guy is looking at the camera? Or perhaps the 2nd guy is looking at the first with the stick, waiting for the 1st guy and this creates 3 eye lines that projects outwards..

it's fine. such interaction are gd.
i was idling around and observing before taking a few shots at intervals. i intended to catch the guy looking at me, but miss it. the above is the next best with all 3 facing front. the one with the front guy turning away to work is not better. and he continued laughing and didn't take his next bricks. thereafter i left with the rest of my mates.

i would also accept criticism abt the pseudo-halo. it is relatively back-lit and the sun is just behind the house, so that part has clipped highlight. when bringing back the highlight, the gradient near the house is made more apparent. i probably should go in to smooth out that part...

Great series as usual, a good read with interesting annotated facts

I noticed that u used more harsh vignetting this time , examples included #39, # 40, # 41 where there is a sharper transition especially over the lower corners. Was this a result of mechanical vignetting ?

Just wondering if the darkening of the skies was selectively performed post processing, because it seems the blue skies within the door seemed much lighter than it would transit compared to the skies on its right.

yes it is. cos i find that i didn't really mind that, so instead of adjusting till 13-4mm, i shot most at 10mm. i adjust my frame by angling and positioning myself rather than use the zoom. i will be more than happy if there is a pancake nikon 10mm non fisheye prime, cos most of the time i dun need the zoom (though sometimes i do, eg i will bring it to 20mm for group shots.)

also it is a new camera. so i got to adjust to the EV which somehow looks darker than before despite of having a higher EV. but still i think D90 have a much much better latitude.

i did processing on the gate to bring out slight detail in the shadow but not the sky. the GND is tilted slightly to the right hence you may see the right sided corner outside the gate slightly darker than the inside of the gate. otherwise the gradient is not altered.

but in the end i chose this photo becos the DOF is better balanced between
the face and torso.

good choice
It's a beautiful picture..The neck can be sensuous too and it's not always perfect to focus on the obvious..;)

Thought the halo effect in #61 was more prominent; is that natural? It's a great effect nonetheless.

Your series are always an inspiration for when I travel, especially your penchant for the ultra-wide end of the Siggy
I feel that your photos are one of the best in UWA work, and they say' I love shooting at 10mm, and I'm proud of it, distortion and all'
You make the angles work, look so effortless
I personally struggle with mine, have a tendency to pick up unwanted elements, shots can seem contrived, sigh

hmm.. the gradient looks ok to me.. I think my eyes are not as "photography trained" as yours.. :bsmilie:

But this point really makes my brain works harder..

yah, good observation. to think of that, no good.
but too troublesome to reverse engineer it....

backlit flared. dubrovnik. probably should consider square crop to the right
for better composition, but like the cobbled appearance on the left. there is
no room for both in a straight horizon. a stretched arm with tiltable live view
may help in this kind of situation.
