Sarajevo to South Dalmatia rejoiced (H series)

zoossh, your photos never fail to impress me!

Wonderful work!

thanks. the only time i shot in the whole year, so must put the best in it...

I love the way u handle/acquire the shadow, very nice series! :)

credit to D90's good shadow control but too bad the clipping of highlight is still there. too bad s5pro is too heavy and heard some lag (i'm a snappist, so i need some basic speed), if not i might become a fujifilm user.

not really lah. i seem to have problems with the new cam or i more slack/lack discipline, so pictures not sharp.

Keep the beautiful pictures coming!!!! ;p

sorry to you and all other viewers. haven't got nikon nx2 after trial over. not too happy with adobe DNG, so all my raw file are frozen until i can process on them...

split: cathedral of st domnius. with only simple metal railings, a staircase is
built up the clock tower and it just dun feel that safe. as it can be seen,
the japanese tourists are clinging to their life to whatever support they can
get as they come down. by the way, a notice was put up there, something
like climb at your own risk

sorry, didn't reply earlier cos didn't want the thread to be just greetings and replies before new pics come in. held off posting of pic for some time cos i have a hard time trying to get the raw conversion up, and though it is still not satisfactory until i get nikon capture nx up, at least it isn't as bad as before.

taken near mir galleria at vrboska. there is very strong highlight and shadow
discrepancy. tried to preserve the highlight, but still got some highlight clipping
and plenty of shadow clipping. unfortunately i have neither the talent/discipline
to use film or willing to carry a heavy fujifilm dslr. wonder when can they make
a entry level cam with good weight and basic iso/af features comparable to
nikon - i would love the latitude.

bee and lavender at our backyard at vrboska. initially wanted to look for
lavender field but transport is very expensive, and also not sure if it is
really that nice, so in the end settled for the small bushes in the backyard
of our rented apartment. as can be seen, the summer light is extremely
difficult to handle (or blame it on my poor techniques), while most are shine
under the great sun, the shadows are really that dark.

taken at restoran luka, vrboska. got interested in the embolded print on
the glass bottle -written nepovratna boca, which i now check actually
means non-reusable bottle in croatian. wine is plavac hvar (kvalitetno
vino meaning vintage quality). plavac in croatian also mean pumice which
is a kind of volcano rock. i'm not sure if plavac hvar is related to that rock.
however sadly speaking, i can't rem the taste of the wine - something i
should/would probably never splurge on...

i haven't really tried to open myself up there, so portraits are only scanty.
however once a while we came into great opportunities for great shots. a
few bosnian children are playing at a basketball court - the boys are on
the court, while the girls sit on the bench. the girls are really pretty and
their smiles are really sweet, and most of all you can see from their eyes
that they are very happy to have their shots taken. i will post at a later
time more shots from the same scene.

skin tone somehow slightly more yellowish than intended and seen on
processing. the shots in this trip are a little wider than what i usually
shoot, becos i'm trying out how it feels to be using a 30mm (f/1.4 sigma)
compared to the 50mm (f/1.8 nikkor). to be frank, i still very much prefer
50mm for portraits, to get the face in a tighter composition.

back to the slightly darker side, a couple sitting by the pier at split, one of
the large croatian city by the coast, with its famous diocletian palace. the
name of this place makes it difficult to google..., but nonetheless it is a
comfortable place to relax.

an angel at the cemetry of cavtat. there is also a masoleum built by some-
one supposely famous called Ivan Mestrovic, but as none of us are really
that interested (perhaps we didn't know enough) we bypass the masoleum.
the cemetry is at the highest point of the island, and the sea can just be
seen behind.

croatian "prayer's flag" at dubrovnik, reminds me of the tibetan lungta. that's
teletubbies in the middle, the "cult religion" there.... believe me if you want...
hahaha....

how did get people to pose for you? do you ask them right at the start or do you chat with them first before asking? I am asking because I wish to start exploring taking people photograph next time I travel.
