as for most trips, i will try to diversify the themes. waterfall is planned and we
ended up with two locations - one at skradinski buk in krka national park (pronouced
ker-ka softly) and the other at kravice near mostar. the 2nd one turn out better
due to the high ground available (or either you go near, impossible most of the
time, though two of our garangs went into the water to inch forward a few
metres more and cut the crowds out, i'm very curious about their results,
haven't seen yet).
i think most waterfall, being able to find the vantage, is of uptmost importance.
secondly is to be equipped with necessary focal lengths (mine is limited as
my lens are missing in certain focal lengths). and lastly having good quality
ND filters... we ended up having to share and combine stacked filters (think
is 2 x ND4 or ND8...) and only the most diligents of the group manage to catch
their silky waterfall. i gave up right at the start and rot with a few others (the
boring east asians?) while the adrenaline junkies (mostly caucasian backpackers)
enjoyed the waterfall and all the jumps everywhere. my last few mins salvages
a postable picture as i leave the place and saw a composition that is decent.

technically, it is difficult to get good results from waterfall itself. in this location,
we have backlighting and the waterfall is rather dark. i would wonder if a
frontlighting that is harsh is probably just as difficult. in this pic, there is also a
large mist that fills most of the bottom part of the waterfall which makes it look
washout (or atmospheric??). there is also a portion i blow the highlights just
above greeneries above the waterfall...
well, any waterfall guru can share their experience here?
