Hi guys, I have a problem.

I purchased two SANYO 160x SD cards (one 4GB, one 2GB) from SITEX 06 today. The 4GB one didn't work with my Panasonic LX2 (I checked with the people there and they said the card IS SDHC). My computer was able to recognize it and the speed was very fast, close to 25MB/s. However it is rather useless since I can only use it on my PC and not on any portable devices (camera, PDA etc).

I went back to SITEX, and the guys were really nice and took the card back and gave me two 2GB cards (same 160x speed specs).

However, much to my disappointment, all my 2GB cards do not perform at the "160x high speed" speed. It is more like 1-2MB/s and mind you, that's like those normal 12x-16x SD cards, slower than my "normal" SD card.

I am shocked at the huge speed differences and the thing is, I double-checked with the staff and the booth adverts cleared stated the speed is "high speed 160x". There is certainly no room for error for "16.0x" since obviously that does not qualify for high speed and their posters say otherwise. The product packaging, and sticker on the card also clearly says "high speed 160x".

I started using Sanyos rechargeable since the 2100mAH series. Those were good. Then came 2300, 2500, 2700. I bought batches of each series. ALL of them can't hold their charge. ALL didn't perform as well as the 2100 series. Since then, I swore off Sanyos. Money wasted is one thing. Being let down by my equipment is a different thing altogether.

Check with Panasonic Service if the card is compatible with the SD cards your purchased. I think this is a case of hardware compatibility. :)

 Apologies. Should read

The thing is, the slow speed happens not only on the camera, but on all devices tested (PDA, Computer, SD card reader) and the speed is terribly slow.

Hmm... I have checked the Panasonic LX2 can use SDHC cards. In this case, this may be Panasonic DC may not be compatible with Transcend SD HS cards.

Perhaps you can try perform the in-camera format on the card. If this fails, I would suggest you go back to the seller to exchange for other cards, maybe Sandisk if possible. Otherwise, exchange for other items. Cheers!

4gb selling about $104 very good price. But in view of the battery problem, I really no confidence to buy from Sanyo.

I copy a 78M file from PC to Sanyo 160x SD card (inserted in card reader) takes 103 seconds. For the same setup, copy to Kingston Elite Pro taks only 17 second. I feel cheated. what 160X it mean ? Anyway cheap thing no good. 2G @160x selling $49.Blame myself didn't open eye wide wide..

anyway i wun say 49 is cheap... kingston elite pro 2gb is going less than 60bucks now... so the different ain't that far off.

No need to test & try anymore lah. Face it, gana conned!

I suppose $49 should be considered cheap for a 150x SD card. Kingston Elite Pro is only 50x. It's about $53 for a 2GB card from what I am told. Need to compare with the price of Kingston 120x Ultimate.

Hi digimax,

Is your card marked "SDHC"? Is the speed class indicated? I am not sure but maybe it is a class 2 SDHC. If so, the write speed can be as low as 13x. 160x could be the read speed only. For more info, read:

If you've read my first post correctly, I've stated that:

The first 4GB card is: not SDHC-standard, but supports high speed read/write (read 25MB/s, write 20MB/s)

The later 2GB cards is: SD-standard, 13x read/write. I went to their offices and they were able to get 60-80x speed with their own card reader, still a far cry from the advertised 160x.

Hi, I read your post again. You said the card IS SDHC. You did not say what was the supported read/write speed in MB/s. You merely stated your test results.

Anyway ...

Guys be careful as camera supporting 2GB SD150x/80x ,etc MAY NOT support 4GB SD150x/80x..etc.

SDHC is High Capacity but not 'High Speed'
