Hi everyone. I just bought a Sandisk Extreme III 2.0Gb CF card at the IT Fair from the Vector Magnetics Booth. It was a great offer at $80 so I snapped it up.

When I opened the box, I noticed that the label containing the words "Extreme III" were not in gold as in the picture on the box, but rather in the regular silver color (similar to the Ultra II). You can see it in the picture below:

This seems in line with the description I found online on counterfeit sandisk cards in the market: http://reviews.ebay.com/FAKE-SanDisk-Extreme-Compact-Flash-Cards-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000001456539

Just wondering if anyone here knows anything about this, and if the card I bought was indeed a counterfeit, or simply a variation of an original card.

Thanks!

i saw a crazy crowd queuing and rushing for the memory cards... looking at the prices i was quite tempted but didn't believe in the good deal. Hope you didn't get an imitation copy.

if you're sure you bought from Vector Magnetics, rest assured it's real, cos they're the official Sandisk distributor in Singapore. =)

Yah loh, until 4gb at $145 & 8gb at $260 all snapped up wor?

2gb at $80 is cheap...

Official distributor won't dare to sell fake good one, don't be so paranoid.

Do a benchmarking on it see if it is as fast as your normal CF card.

Thanks everyone!

Guess what I wanted to do was check with everyone else if their extreme III cards look similar too, before I open the packaging or decide to check with Vector directly about this. Cos if everyone else's has the standard gold lettering, it'll be a bit fishy if mine looks different.

Vector is the authorized distributor, shouldn't be fake.

Did some check and realised that some distributors don't even know they have gotten fake cards let alone selling them, coz they do not always get their stocks directly from Sandisk.

there's only 1 official distributor for Sandisk memory cards, and that's vector magnetics. ;)

Yes, but are they following the rule to get from them accordingly that is another story. Anyway if there is issue with the card you can always go back to the shop u purchase from.:bsmilie:

don't worry.. i've looked at the one i bought from AP SL and it's silver too... that one confirm original coz it had the voucher to collect the sandisk toy and the vector magnetics sticker...

and yeah.. since u bought direct from vector magnetics it's definitely original... congrats on ur purchase!

Write to Sandisk to verify? :dunno:

Great price! To think that I got my Extreme III 2GB at $200+ abt a year ago... :(

Thanks! It should be fine, then. Yeah, the prices keep tumbling, don't they! My first card was a n Ultra II 1Gb which i bought for $140 one and half years ago.. now the same card is going for only one quarter of that price.

Yeah I might just write in to Sandisk anyway to ask, but all should be well. Thanks all for your input: )

OK MY BAD...

i took a second look and realised.. it is gold.... the surface is very reflective so from an angle u'll see it as silver.. try looking at it differently on yours... might work... i notice in your photo there is a tinge of yellow on the words too....
