OT a little.. so are Street Photographs snapshpts? Since they are unplanned, no prep involved for the photographer, and they are taken in the spur of a moment.

I agree with one of the comments given here.. who cares whether they're snapshots? In the end, if you like the image (or if the client like the image), and you're satisfied with it, it's really all that matters.

shooter.. i'm not a sharp freak.. that's my pix always blur n oof.. hehehheehe

Fantastic shot for both, just 2nd one lack of eye contact else it will be a very good "snapshot" or "portrait shot".

*Either one of the term is suitable for everyone of us here, unless got new "term" to add. :)

I personally don't feel that a snapshot is any inferior to a posed shot. You need the sharpness, experience and know-how to catch a good snap-shot. Sometimes have to go thru tremendous effort too.

Some claimed that you are "merely in the right place at the right time" if you managed to get a good snap shot, implying that you are only Lucky to get the shot.

Among some of the same posters in this thread, recently even comments in another thread in Kopitiam that if you don't have control over poses and lightings etc etc, you should not claim ownership of the photos and include it in your portfolio.

This idea I really can't agreed on.

OMG. Got to take a look at that thread. Can u link me to it? I should put a water mark "Thanks to God. These photos are God's and I've no ownership over them" in all my events and outdoor photos then.

exactly, this is totally riduculous... then camera should not be invented.. better still :sticktong

Wah, I read until page 3 of this thread I tired liao.
Since you all got so much time to bicker, can I ask a small favour?

Can you guys take few mins to visit this thread - http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=259107

Since we are unsure about it being a portrait or not....what is this that I shot?

It is so sad to see so many fellows Club Snap users thinking so fully of themselves.
Being ignorance is bad, but trying to give Art a definition is worse.
It is like someone telling me what my bed should be to be qualified as a bed. A bed has to be 7 feet long and 3 feet wide. The bed frame must have four legs and ground clearance of at least 1 feet and must fit with a 3 Inch mattress. Anything less is not comfortable and definitely cannot be classified as a proper bed.
Do you think this is stupid? Or did our education system made us so rigid and inflexible that we must find a meaning and definition to every aspect of Photography.

We are killing possibility and creativity if we start giving Portrait a definition.
Nobody mentioned about the story, feel and emotion that you see in the picture. Instead people say (must have control over subject; lighting; background; expression ect..)

I agree more with Student’s version.

To TS:
Both your pictures are nice, I like them. The girl in the picture is full of confident.

Yes...ever wonder why our education system nv change??

ever wonder why US companies perform better then sg ones...

D70sshooter,

The 2nd pic is Nice, ... but jus that it lacks the EyE Contact
Nevertheless, it a well-effort take

Still prefer Pic #1 though.... :)

Think your thread has taken much controversy

Anyway, do you have anymore on Full body-length or Mid Body-length photos of this series?
if you dont mind posting.

Tks.

We are trained to be a conformist. How far can we go in life if we only think that a spade can only be black in colour? In a picture: Hair must be nice nice, light must be bright bright, bikini must be red red.

Mr D = A red colour spade!! You must be carzy, go and damp yourself into the trash bin.
Mr S = A red colour spade!! Good on you mate, you have a mind of your own to see things differently.

:)

Errrr............... the "rigid" one has great US influence!

......all he did is mention is you in red bikini as an example of a photograph that could be a snapshot. Think about it. Not everything revolves around you gal. Sion I could understand, but this takes the cake.

Mate, I haven't found a red bikini yet.

Have a great trip!

Goodness sake..yes I did ask you out for lunch. Like I did to student. I still have to go out with dead poet, and another female member from CS, plus I agreed to fish with some of them. Not to add to the whole host of other ppl I have to meet. I just simply asked because out of friendliness.

Mate, how come when I go to Singapore I don't get this sort of reception one?

I think enough is enough. As a rule, i try really hard to be more generic in my warnings but this takes the cake. Student & Jeanie, consider yourself warned.

Both of you, grow up and learn to govern your tongues better. Both of you are equally culpable. This silly one up man ship is not helping and neither is all this bickering.

If you do not like a particular person, put the person on your ignore list.

It is THAT simple.

I do not wish to hear from either one of you regarding this matter again. To the thread starter, i do apologise but I am also closing this thread. Should you wish to get more feedback regarding your phots, please feel free to do so in a seperate thread. Thank you.

Here is an after thought as well. Everyone should also know where i stand on most matters so should anyone try their luck or decide that they wish to push the envelope, they are liable to have their postings deleted, account suspended or permanently banned.

Anyone who isn't convince is welcome to try.
