wow..thanks for the samples. could you possibly do a test shots of the macro at full tele? wondering what's the distance. of course if you can't then never mind. thanks for the samples once again :)

the only thing thats hindering me from buying s8000 is the lack of silent zoom when taking video clips. zoom not possible when in video.

and quite sad that it's iso 3200 and above can only be in lower res

thanks for the effort! maybe you want to try stationary objects first, like a coin? then see at full zoom and macro mode, what's the distance between you and object. your second pic is a crop right?

yep, 2nd pic actual is crop from the 1st pic , i lazy to try , so fast only use 3 times for this cam.

hi hlw8888, if i'm not wrong you're a s8000fd owner right? post some test shots leh.

I own an S8000 and have about 70 pictures in my Smugmug Galleries. Some are low light pixs, some wide angle, some approx 3x, 10x and 18x. In my opinion, Fuji did an excellent job developing this camera.

But, like everyone else, I would like to see a larger EVF + zooming feature during movie recording.

BTW, lim1900, your pictures look great. Nice rich colors.

All the best,
Jim

hi james cafferty! i follow your threads on the s8000fd quite intensely at dpreview. You have some pretty good shots yourself. Would you happen to know what's the macro distance at the end of the telephoto?

juz being curious, can s8000fd zoom during movie mode? can some s800fd users confirm that? cos i heard some say can, some say cannot.

I think the confusion comes about because:

- after you spin the dial to Movie Mode, a red Movie Camera logo appears in the upper left of the LCD screen and / or the EVF

- At this time you can still zoom in or out because the camera is in Standby and the words STANDBY appear on the upper right of the LCD or EVF screens

- Once you press the Shutter Button and the red letters REC light up, you are now in Recording Mode and can NOT zoom in or out

- After you switch to playback mode, you still can NOT zoom in or out of the movie you just recorded

I confirmed this on my own S8000 before typing this reply.

Thank! you for that nice compliment.

Page 65 of the Manual reads:
Focal range
Wide angle:
Approx 10cm to 80cm (3.9 in. to 2.6 ft.)

Telephoto
Approx 1.2 m to 3.5 m (3.9 ft. to 11.5 ft.)

Focal range in Super Macro
Approx. 1 cm to 10 cm (0.4 in. to 3.9 in.)

Focal length: fixed to approx. 60 mm (35 mm camera equivalent)

Effective flash range
Approx. 30 cm to 3.0 m (1.0 ft. to 9.8 ft.)

When Super Macro is set, flash or N/Flash (Natural & Flash) can NOT be used

Use a Tripod to prevent camera shake.

(Super Macro acts like a big magnifying glass, so if you don't use a Tripod your pictures will probably be a little blurry)

Hi lim1900,

Your photos taken at the lantern festival are really well taken !
I am a S8000fd user myself but having difficulties optimising the camera ..
May I know what are settings did you use to achieve these results ?

Hi bizchng ,
thanks , my setting still can see on the Photos properties (just download its to check) ,

fyi most of the time I use "P" & "S" mode + ON the "Dual IS"

btw, during video recording mode, can the sound be muted and have the optical zoom worked?

Hi all, i'm thinking of getting S8000, may i know beside the clip cannot zoom is there any other bad pts of the cam? Was using olympus SP550 but very disappointed with that camera.
