hey clockunder! i realise at iso400 your images are really clean. what do you use to clean it up? neat image? or noise ninja? mind sharing your work flow?
For the Christmas Deco ISO 400 picture, I think I probably applied a very mild noise reduction with Noise Ninja. For other ISO 400 pictures I have ever posted, I apply Noise reduction only when I see apparent noise. However, I think I usually don't apply noise reduction for ISO 400 pictures from this camera because noise is not very apparent at ISO 400 and if I reduce noise, some details would be lost.
For comparison, here is the original ISO 400 Christmas Deco picture which didn't apply any noise reduction. Noise is still not very apparent except a little on the white car in the foreground.

My workflow for post-processing :
1) If the composition is not ideal, I do some cropping. 3:2 aspect ratio is better than 4:3 for some pictures.
2) If noise is apparent, then apply Noise Ninja (a plug-in in my Photoshop CS2). Ever since I got the S6500fd, I only do noise reduction occassionally at ISO 400 and I seldom shoot at ISO 800 and above.
3) Adjust the contrast either through image adjustmetns ===>levels or exposure (gamma) or brightness and contrast. Watch the histogram.
4) Adjust Saturation.
5) Save and then resize down for web viewing.
6) Unsharp Mask (usually 2 rounds of small sharpening ............. 20-50%, radius 1, threshold 0).
7) Borders and text.
Done.

im using CS3..

HAHA. it was a tiny bee man! full zoom, super macro and then hardcore cropping. budget macro, no money for filter/extension tube/adapter.
i think you can ask clockunder, he uses noise ninja.

heres mine, pardon me if its too small.
ahh how do i put them up nicely without the hassle of click on the link? dont think theres an error with the coding though, because its from flickr?
