Thanks.

I think there is probably still lots of room for improvement.

Still needs some experts to give pointers.

In the past, there were a few critical forumers who frequently gave harsh comments but good pointers on how to improve.

These days, I see the gallery forums have degenerated to only see ing frequent back-patting which is usually more harmful than good. Very often, I'm puzzled why some of the person's buddies never tell the poster that his picture's whites are blown or it's slanted or too noisy etc. As a result, the same mistakes get repeated over and over again till today, more than 2 years after joining clubsnap.

Also we have the "professional" back-patters who go around patting backs even when the pictures are bad and the mistakes are so glaring. These are the ones whose pictures also never improve much over time because they also get back-patted in return when they posted their pictures.

I notice that many old timers have vanished or have refrained from giving pointers. I miss the good old days.

Nice series that brings out the best of S6500fd

I like #14 & #15 best

interesting outfit

Yes, #15 makes me want to peek what is underneath ..... good for upskirt peek.

The strength of the S6500fd is its relatively better high ISO performance when compared to other prosumer cameras such as Canon S1/S2/S3/S5, Panasonic FZ 5/7/8 and Olympus SP550UZ etc. It's in the class of its own in this aspect.

Here's a picture taken at high ISO to get at least a certain fast enough shutter speed :

1/10 seconds
ISO 800
F/5.6 (F/2.8 is possible but used F/5.6 instead to ensure sufficient Depth of Field because the shooting distance is quite near).
Handheld. (I can handhold without apparent handshake blur as long as the shutter speed is faster than 1/actual focal length .........actual focal length was 6.2mm in this case).
Further slight noise reduction applied with Noise Ninja to make it cleaner.

Some strong sharpening needed as the shutter speed is still a little too slow to freeze the swaying lanterns (quite a bit of strong breeze along the river that night). I brought my tripod along but using a tripod with low ISO + slow shutter speed is out of the question because a fast enough shutter speed is needed to freeze the swaying lanterns). Although there is quite a bit of loss in details with ISO at 800, it's still very much better than other prosumer cameras at ISO 800.

For comparison of details captured, here's another one taken at ISO 400 :

Which forum?

Although I see many familiar faces when I shoot during events and can identify some of them (such as Yilishengxian, John Tan etc.), I don't mix around and therefore don't know them personally.

S6500fd has less features than my 4.5 years old Nikon 5700 prosumer camera and is not very good for Macro photography.

As said many times, it's strength is in low light or indoor photography. So it's the camera for you if you shoot quite a fair bit of night street candid or indoor (such as fashion shows, events etc.)

For my pictures, I do a fair bit of post-processing because the sharpness and bokeh are not as nice as I would like. I also did the same to the pictures from my Nikon 5700 prosumer cam.

To attach a picture, you need to host it on some website first. I use imageshack

http://www.imageshack.us/

After uploading and getting the url, I append it to my post by clicking the icon button shown (circled in red) in the picture below and then copy the url of the picture from imageshack and paste it in the pop-out box as shown below :

Alternatively, instead of using the icon button, you may also use ......{img} url {/img} ..... note : use [ instead of { and then ] instead of }.

I know some Canon Owners are now in Canongraphers.org, althoughi do not know them personally. I really should meet up when there is an outing but have been really busy with family commitments. sigh ... Used to dable with camera everyday b4 getting married, but no only once in a while. Skills learnt all rusty liao ...

can i purchase a 1.4f lens to fix on 6500fd?

Lens on the S6500FD is not changeable. You can only add Wide Angle Lens adapter or a tele lens to it with a diameter of 58mm thread size.

how about reverse lens macro photography? can right ?

thanks for the reply, I need to take sport photography under low-light condition, currently at ISO 1600 1/80 f2.8, the result of the photo is still too dark and noisy. Should I get a wide or tele lens for low-light condition?

Ok thanks.

How about the Nikon users?

I don't know what happened in clubsnap as sometimes I don't look at this forum nor take any pictures for months.

I only see that the forum is now less vibrant as many active experienced members (especially in Nikon and Canon Sub-forums) are no longer around.

I think reverse macro can be done on any camera as long as you can find the right gears to put the lens reversed in front of the fixed lens.

Normal pointing lens "de-magnifies" ....... any object in the scene is shrunk at f/D (where f=focal length and D=distance) to be smaller to fit into the tiny image sensor in the camera.

When the lens is reverse, it works the other way around ....... it magnifies.

Adding a teleconverter will make the amount of light able to reach the image sensor even lesser. So the shutter speed attainable is even slower and less suitable for indoor sports.

As for wide converter, the subject will become too small in the frame as there is no way you can get close enough to shoot the action sports although more light may enter the camera.

For indoor sports, you really need a DSLR and a very fast long zoom lens. Point and shoot and prosumer cameras lack the low noise at high ISO performance of a larger image sensor found on DSLR and also the fast enough shutter speed attainable (such as at least 1/400) with F/2.8-F/4 for 200mm-400mm lens.

If you really want to shoot indoor sports, DSLR is the way to go and be prepared to fork out at least $4K for just the body and 1 lens.

As for your S6500fd, one thing you can do is use a noise reduction program such as Noise Ninja to reduce the noise shot at ISO 800 and 1600.
