If we can get more, I think we can press the price down further. IMHO, I will be visiting MS Color during lunch time today to try out the cam.

$860 w/GST is still high, but if we can lower the price, it would be much better.

I was like you, deciding between the FZ-5, the FZ-20 and the S2.
But after seeing the specs, I find the S2 more worth the money.

Just bought the cam during lunch at $860. Asked her & Mr Loh about pricing for a Group Buy and was told the the camera is too new to have too much of a discount. May have to wait for a while to get better pricing.

like i mentioned earlier, if its anything to go by from my experience with the S1, the S2 shld be a winner. nice lightweight ultra-zoom prosumer camera with IS. great for travels, as i've found out. wat more can u ask for? :bsmilie:

I intended to buy the S1 IS before I had any digicam.. because of the low MP, I decided to get A95 instead.. but few months later.. damn it! S2 IS is out and it's damn feature packed.. no boh lui liao :cry:

:dunno: It's always been like this and...you don't have to follow the megapixel war so closely. I think 3mp is good enough especially when there's plenty of optical zoom at your disposal.

860 isn't bad. Guess it's slightly over 4000RMB in Shanghai and Beijing, and stock is running quickly. :sweat: No I'm not gonna buy it... :bheart:

only thing is the price still beyond my budget.... $860exp!!. But on one hand looking at my almost 3yrs Nikon 885 and wish I can convert it to some $$$ before picking S2 home.

After all these years of buying and watching, digicam buyers have become a more patient lot. Wait 2 months, the price probably drop to 830. Another 2 months, probably 800. And yet another 2 months, upgraded ultra-zooms from other competitors will be announced, with features exceeding S2...

It's likely I'll get the S2 soon, but not immediately...

Thought it should be better compared with the Lumix FX5 instead? I took a look at the S2 and surprising its not that big...but price of FZ5 at $660 compared with almost $900 for the canon is hard to ignore. so now boils down to reviews. will sit back and read the reviews over the next 1-2 weeks before I decide to be a Canon or Panasonic owner!
One thing is the FZ5 was rated very highly on image quality while the S1, the S2 predecessor did not rate as well...

hard to say...

FZ20 has a constant F2.8 thruout its focal range. it has leica lens and OIS (similar to IS of canon). it, of course, has a hotshoe.

S2 has variable aperature. same focal length as the FZ20. same MP. no hotshoe. uses AA batts (compared to propritory Li-ion batt of FZ20, which suppose to last longer). also has IS. both uses SD cards. but, DigicII suppose to have better noise controls than FZ20.

until a proper review comes out, guess any potential buyer will have to go by gut feeling and size of wallet... my guess is dat they will be very similar in performace, but canon will trump due to image quality (IMO).

Ok.. this is what I feel..

S2 IS is more like to pair up against FZ-5 (FZ-5 no hotshoe, no constant F2.8 lens)
However, I find that the S2 IS is able to hold its ground well even when it is pair up against FZ-20. Furthermore the size is kinda compact and has good ergonomic design.

Anyway, while waiting for proper review, you may want to check out a mini review written by me.
