That price ($949) is the price i saw in the newspaper ad :) Other places may be a bit cheaper.

Hmm, have 2 conflicting quotes from MS Color, so is it $860 with or without GST?

Hi,

Did you pay $860 only for the cam? Is this inclusive of GST?

I was quoted $860 b4 GST.

Got it as well from MS Colour.

Used to have a Powershot S40. The S2 is bulkier and heavier (understandable with the extra zoom lens), but still feels good in the hands.

Not much time to play with it, but so far, I like the AA batteries, zoom range and supermacro. All the buttons on the back makes me feel like a kid in the candy store - lots of options and quick control.

I feel price is quite on the high side, as even in the US, you can get it for about US$470 before tax.

Anyone else keen on getting this? Perhaps if we pool together, we can get a better deal?

My brother, cousin and I are still deciding between this and the Panasonic FZ5. Just waiting for the review in dpreview.com before deciding.

Bro,

If you are going to get it, please include me as well.

If we can get more, I think we can press the price down further. IMHO, I will be visiting MS Color during lunch time today to try out the cam.

Will post my findings here later.

$860 w/GST is still high, but if we can lower the price, it would be much better.

I was like you, deciding between the FZ-5, the FZ-20 and the S2.
But after seeing the specs, I find the S2 more worth the money.

Felix

What's in Canon's head switching to SD card? CF seems more friendly as this camera is supposed to take a lot of video clips.

HI brothers... Me back with good news...

I manage to get good price from one of the distributor

Canon S2 IS selling for $855.00 nett.

If we can get more people to pool in maybe i can get better price. This model very limited set. Check with distributor left less than 5 pcs.

To take video on S2 at 640x480 30fps, it's best to pop in a high speed SD card.

Best value for money SD card right now is the Corsair 1GB 40X.

Cybermind selling for $129. File Write benchmark up there with Sandisk Ultra II, which goes for $170 at Alan Photo.
