The Pano mode doesn't lock automatically?
I prefer to lock on something that I want to expose right, then do the pano. Also, Pano mode does not let you choose ISO.

Actually not locking the focus lah, its locking the exposure and the technic is:

Point at the right spot that gives you the exposure you want, half-press the shutter and press the ISO button, then you will see an "*" in the screen, then re-frame your pic and shoot! After shooting the "*" will be gone and exposure is unlocked.:)

Is S1 IS & Ixus V3 different from S2 & S3? For my past cameras, I just half-press the shutter at the desired object and then re-frame the picture without releasing the shutter. Seems to work, or maybe I was just lucky.

But for S3, I realise now that you do have to press the ISO button to fix the exposure.

No, Shutter half-pressed can only lock focus. Tot this is universal to all cam......my Fuji does it the same way.

Actually I haven't read and try on the S3 Pano mode. But i am sure Pano mode must lock exposure, if not when stitching up the pics together will look very obvious......

Or were you saying doing Pano not in Pano mode?

Half shutter will lock focus & exposure.

Yeah, Pano mode locks exposure, on your first frame. So if it is the brightest part of the pano, everything else will be under. If it is the darkest part, everything else will be over. Also, it will auto ISO, I try to stick to the lowest ISO as far as possible.

O really? Both huh.....talk about this, it sound like to for my Fuji too, both......That's how I lock my exposure when I take Pano with my Fuji which doesn't have pano mode nor exposure lock......

so if the point where you get the best exposure but not the good focus then u need to lock exposure, then use half shutter to lock focus (on another object), then re-frame and shoot.

eh... i saw a few pics of the moon in the earlier part of the thread... i tried to take photos of the moon last night... but all my shots turned out to be super overexposed. i just see a white patch of circle in there. can anyone advise how to get a nice shot of the moon? like under what kinda settings. i tried using short shutter, F8. but still the same...

I shoot the moon quite often. (NO, I am not talking about that!) Its a well liked pass time of long zoom owners. Normall use f4, shutter of 1/40, 1/80 and 1/160. I then use Photoshop to merge them to a HDR image. Normally shoot using a tripod. Shoot at full zoom, sometimes just use a wee bit of digitial zoom.

I am using 1/125 and f5.6.

Below is the shot without any merging. Abit of USM and contrast..

Moon was easy to take cos it is just a reflection of the sun.

Looks like it got caught. Is the sea bloody or it is just the colour of the seabed? Looks like it's trying to say "help meee" ;)

If it was not raining, you might have tried for a lower angle. Make full use of the tilt/swivel LCD :)
