Too bad about the crown of leaves :( Good shot otherwise

Am I being too critical of pictures? I tend to be a grump when it comes to my own pictures....

i like e poise of tis cheetah.. notice the front legs. in a rather relaxed position.. gd life. i quite like e curtain of leaves on the head.. i dislike the tree trunk on top of e head e most. v. distractin..

Yeah, almost what I think.
#1 Good focus on the cats eyes! Cat at the left of the frame with more space on the right might have been better.
#2 Green twig in background is distractng. Shot at full tele?
#3 Use the thorny leaf the squirrel as the bottom of the frame.

Welcome to the club! :D

Thanks for the pointers.

Being the amateur that I am, I was rather preoccupied with getting a 'green rectangle in the middle'. I forgot all about compositions when I see lovely creatures.

I like your suggestions and I'll try to keep them in mind for future shoots.

All the pics were taken with Sports mode. I'm quite a slow person - I only dare to use manual mode with still objects.

The dragonfly was shot at full tele. There was a longkang between us and I couldn't find a better vantage point.

But you're right, focusing on the subject's eyes does give the photo some impact.

Cheerios!

Oops! Typo, I was saying friendly DSLR user.:)

No problem friend. Yah, I was also not too sure too, should have guess it right in the first place.

Anyway, enjoy your new S3!

Cheers

I like #1, the detail on the rock looks like a face!

But for #4, you are trying to capture the lines not the temple huh? If the details of the temple can be shown......

If #6 you can expose it longer, making the water silky, I would like it more, though I like it now too.

Thanks for your comments, for the temple shot i was trying not to get the sky over exposed and at the same time to have as much detail from the temple, if the sky was blue with no clouds it would turn out much better.

Yah, i guess so too. But does playing with the metering help in this case? I have no idea.:dunno:

Yes i tried this photo was using spot metering mode

Yup metered the sky with EV compensation + can't remember how much

#1 Watch out for the lens flare. Sky on the right seems a bit blown, rest of it has good exposure. Would it have been better if you had only taken the strange rock with the sky in the background? I find the boardwalk to be a bit distracting.
#2 Noting much to say. Its a good idea to get people in some building shots so you get a feeling of how big the object you are shooting is.
#4 I like the lines across and the composition of the roof. Would have been better if the top edge of the roof of the temple was not cropped.

Yeah, crossed legs, really relaxed.

Thanks for the kind comments, it reinforces what i feel, some of them like the temple shot there were some limitations like i was already tip toeing at the edge of the step need a wider converter i guessed.:)

Having fun with your DCR-250? Some people have problems focusing with it.

Me too have problems but was a free gift so what the heck:)

Ok, set your focus to infinity, apature f4 to f8. Zoom your lens almost all the way out. Frame your critter, then move the camera towards & away from subject. Once it seems focused, shoot! It takes a while to get used to. My pet spider was taken using it.
