Maybe we can start another thread first, so that all the users with a Canon P&S can post their name & camera there. They already have one for d/SLR, might as well give the rest of us a chance. ;)

haf still gt loads to learn frm u all..

Ahhh.... me still newbie, still learning which way to point the camera. Have taken so many photos of my eye looking thru the lens. :bsmilie:

My friend has a Canon EOS 300D. I was using a S1 IS. We took similar pictures. But (at least to me), mine seems to be more vibrant. Is it because the SLR's picture are more natural while for the Canon consumer models including the PowerShot series, the colours are enhanced?

Which of the following were taken using a S1 and which the EOS 300D?

Actually, both the 1st shots are from the 300D, while the 2nd shots are from my S1. I don't know the settings for the 300D but for my S1, it was all Auto. No special setting. No "vivid" setting (what is that anyway?). I think the 300D was shot in 3:2 format. That is what my friend told me.

Here are another 2 shots, the first from the 300D while the 2nd from my S1. The S1 pictures always seem greener, yellower etc than the SLR pictures. But like I said, for the consumer series, Canon seemed to have exaggerated the colours to please our eyes. Not so for the SLRs.

SLR owners always post process mah. Consumers normally dun. Just take pic and print.

Yeah, P&S tend to oversharpen & oversaturate. I turn my sharpening & contrast down -1, prefer the pictures that way.
