[Rumours] - Sony mirrorless E-system

Erm. You can mount Carl Zeiss, Voigtlander and Leica lenses on M4/3 with the relevant mount adapter. Even with the crop issue, you can do it pretty well.

I don't suppose mentioning the capability to autofocus would amount to anything. I believe consumers are more likely to be going for the one without the need of an adapter.

but without AF.

Actually I think a more valid comparison between M4/3 and the E-mount is in their power consumption. And long-term exposure is kind of detrimental to CMOS censors, less so for M4/3 sensors. It is still too early to decide which one is better right now.

Af wise..sony will pawn Samsung nx, panny and oly mirrorless system.
the only gripe i had...why no hotshoe?
From the concept images, there appears to have a built in flash at least. Give Sony some space for future 'upgrades'..

Not the same, Sony+Carl Zeiss = New AF Carl Zeiss lense which is not available to other brand.

The larger APS size sensors means that better DOF than m4/3 and possibility technically better noise tolerance for same resolution. One of the main gripes of m4/3 is that getting a the DOF is just not there as compared to DSLR.

Also, I suspect that the lens is going to be slightly bigger than m4/3 version, similar to current APS-C lineup.

This is precisely why I am looking forward to APS-C sized sensor mirrorless system, hmm.. maybe they can shorten it and use -M instead? too long to type APS-C mirrorless. :bsmilie:

DOF actually depending on what u want to shoot. Can be a pro or a con with thin DOF.

But to be honest, sensor size is juz a portion of the equation. The major part depends on the DSP & algo behind.

Eg. the Canon 450D compare 50D compare to 7D
Another eg. old Contax digital NX is FF 6MP compared to kodak 14n or SLR/n compared to Canon 5D

Doesn't mean big sensor or big pix means good IQ. Alot depends on the processing, similarly comparing A230 vs A700 & its successor. If u dun see the IQ diff only the weather seal part, then lucky u, there's no need to spend so much money

As a consumer, the only reason to buy such systems is becoz they can make it smaller and cheaper than a DSLR.

Unless if Sony can come out with a strong APS-C lens range with constant aperture eg F4 or wider with CZ or G build, I'm not sure if it sells as well as the m4/3 systems.

Sony already have PnS and DSLR market, I don't have a clue from which segment does the E system will come from if it's priced close to the Alpha range.

Those with the A-mount lenses might not be interested as the coming DSLR will incorporate Video.

I don't see why I need one at the moment. I'd rather get a Cybershot HX5 as a pocket camera. I feel those alpha users who bought KM5D/KM7D/A100 onwards are now either using the alpha system or otherwise and are more interested in acquiring quality lenses as oppose to keep buying new bodies.

Price and size are the only factors to go into the E system for me as my A700 will suffice.

So this might be final dream small camera that I have always wanted...

i'm hoping Sony can do something crazy like release 3 primes 1st instead juz like the old Contax G2 film. HAHAHAHA!!! I'll be the 1st to q & place pre-order :heart:

Are their existing range not enough? I am not sure about Sony Alpha lenses.

A better prime lenses i guess. Same like N and C. Their existing range is already enough but they have some over lap lenses. ;p

EVIL Sonys!. i am impressed. Some sites mentioned having an adapter to maintain backward compatibility with the alpha mount lenses ( like what oly did for their micro4/3 and 4/3 lenses ), but they will most likely retroduce a wide range of E mount lenses to make everything more pocket size.
