Since it's considered rumor site,it's up to individual to perceive what this rumor means,and given the classification of FT4,which means possible, from trusted sources. I chose to believe that it's not just a pipedream.of course, we can agree to disagree
Funny that they're saying "based on the OM-4 Ti" since the OM-4 Ti and the E-3 are so different in size and weight and shape and capabilities, but they're both black.
I could see the company doing a modular camera but would professionals accept it?
Even if it was simply a dual mount body to use the smaller lenses going forward, will people think it is too much of a gimmick to be a "real" camera (whatever a real camera is)?

If it was modular I'd guess it would be something like the Visoflex for the Leica M.
However instead of mounting to the micro 4/3's mount the whole mirror module can be removed and interchanged. Perhaps the module is on vertical rails on the front of the camera kinda like the way the Nikon F5's prism slides on rails.
I think a modular camera might weigh more than an integrated camera and it'll be difficult to weatherproof..

Yea, I hope its about the size of E-3 or better still, E-1 XD
hope i'm not bursting bubbles here, had a chat with the local reps who just got back from a recent trip to Oly HQ. here's what i found out.
1. modular concept
the OM-X developed by the late Maitani-san in the late 70's had produced about 50 prototype units until it was dropped in favour of the regular OM system as the top people in Oly decided it was too radical and the market may not take well to it.
the development team is working on something big now, and modular could be a possibility, but it would not be surprising if it suffered the same fate as the OM-X. as the development is on-going, Oly is filing ALOT of patents, so no surprises if there are more patents to be uncovered in the next few months.
2) there is something coming in 2011. i'm not sure if its 4/3 or m4/3s, but the design concept is based on the OM-1. more info when i find out more.
in the meantime, here's a picture of the OM-X.
