[Rumor] Nikon Retro Hybrid Mirrorless Camera (FX)

Thread title needs change - it's not "mirrorless".... unless

[guess]
HYBRID = Dual OVF/EVF
Both Canon and Nikon have a couple of dual OVF/EVF patents reported by the usual rumour sites throughout the years.
[/guess]

About D4 pricing:
D4 rattles off 10 images per second I think? This new body is rumoured to do so at 5.5. There is also no mention of the AF system used.

Anyway if Nikon is competitive, this will be priced below the D610 as an FX option for people who prefer some compactness, do with slightly lower performance and can do without weather-sealing, dual AF-cards, etc.

However Nikon has a tendency to premium-price some of their stuff, such as they are doing with the 1-system. :(

If this is priced sufficiently lower than a D610, it'll replace that on my shopping list.

My exact sentiments :bsmilie:

I'd be fine with 16mp as it will control my file size when i do panoramas.

Christmas is coming. Ho Ho Ho !!!:vhappy:

This camera with the 58/1.4 would be THE real Leica-killer in my opinion. :bsmilie:

And there's an element of historical irony, if you think about it.

Then they would need to release a special edition of the 58/1.4 with a matching look. I don't see that. The regular Nikon AF-S lenses ail look horribly on a retro body.

I'd wish for a standard battery and/or charger

Some updates on the specs - No video capability.

•Nikon FM2 like design
•16.2MP 36x23,9 full frame sensor (same as in the D4?)
•SD memory card
•2016-pixel RGB image sensor
•9-cell framing grid display
•3D color matrix metering II
•Native ISO range: 100-12,800 (incl. ISO 50 and ISO 108,200)
•5.5 fps for up to 100 shots
•3.2" LCD screen
•Battery:EN-EL14
•Dimensions: 143.5 x 110 x 66.5mm
•Weight: 765g
•It will come with a new AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens (again, not clear what mount the new lens will have)
•Standard F-mount
•No video recording capabilities
•Pentaprism viewfinder (meaning the camera will not be mirrorless)
•The camera will meter even with non-AI lenses down to full aperture
•The camera will ship with a new special edition Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens to match the look/design of the body
•The camera will have physical controls and excellent build quality (which explains the 765g weight)
•Expeed 3 processor
•Same sensor as in the Nikon D4
•Nikon calls it a "hybrid" camera - not sure what exactly they mean with that
•The announcement will be in the next few months, maybe even in the next 1-3 weeks:

I give fib about looks so long as the form factor is to my liking.

•No video recording capabilities
Technically video should be super-simple to do... just raise the mirror. It seems silly for Nikon to gimp the camera firmware for no apparent reason unless it can drive down the price further...

Unless this rumor point should read "no video out" instead, or there's no mic input...

EDIT 1: Removed stuff that does not make sense.

Very nice. It is a good start.

I think the company was purposeful in deciding on: no-video, 16MP instead of 24MP. They know what they are doing.

They are deciding to position it at a particular price point. And also keep in mind users will use it with very old manual focus Nikkors.

Damn.. no video. That means my prediction's almost certainly wrong since EVFs and using on-sensor PDAF (mirror up) basically means a video feed for composing. Maybe I was predicting a D400 haha.

So, I am interested in the type of focusing screen they will provide. No mention just yet?

They do that already even though they might be a bit outdated.

some of us may find the video function a silly function, but those who need it will need it.

not sure what is the logic why nikon is ignoring this growing trend.
