I've been thinking about this since the E-3 arrived and disappointed me. I didn't spend any more money on Olympus equipment since then. There were some technical advances over the E-1 but the image quality wasn't really one of them, mainly because of the aggressive anti-aliasing filter.

They've already shown the E-PL1 to have very good image quality, I think that whatever they show, it should be enough to satisfy me, but in 2014, will I be wondering again?

Thankfully, I'm not trying to make money with it now. I would have switched a while back, if I depended on the camera for money still. Pentax is looking very good now. Nikon is looking good, but the lenses are much more expensive than Pentax to get really good image quality.

Six years with the same body is so long and especially since it's only 5 MP. I'd like to continue with Olympus since I have a moderate investment in lenses. I can't threaten them by not continuing but how many others are waiting, like me, for something competitive with other brands?
 

Well,does it matter that the E-5 looks similar to the E-3? The E-510 and E-520 are more or less identical if not for the blue ring on the mode dial,if E-530 rumors are out and there's a blue ring but it says E-530, are you going to say its fake? Anyway, its just 5 days away, I myself will honestly say,I am excited

somewhat agree. I switched to Olympus E1 5-6 yr ago because of the weather proof (secondary) and mainly because of the oly color. Simply love E1 kodak sensor.when e3 was out, though it came with better LCD, IBIS, some techinical advances but i could not buy the color.

Though EPL1 has good image quality (do you mean by noise control ?), I also realise that EPL1 color is very un-oly color. It is getting further away. Even i would say I like EP1/EP2 better than EPL1.

I understand where you are coming from now. I share your sentiments to a certain extend. Now, Olympus being competitive with other brands is rather subjective. What you do mean by being competitive? :)

Most likely its 15th by Asian time and 14th US time,anyway,we're all friends here right nightpiper and bousozoku? XD

probably 15th here, 14 in some parts of the world

Still worth investing in a 4/3 system:dunno:? Seem to me like technology that is gonna die off and supersede by the m4/3. No offence intented, jus a personnal opinon.

Well, either way, E-P series has better image quality overall than Olympus' dSLRs. The noise control is certainly much better and the image detail, something the E-3 lacks desperately. Messing with the color wouldn't be unusual, if we were using another brand.

While Live View was interesting, the E-4x0/E-5x0 bodies were behind the times with the auto focus system from the 1990s. The auto exposure system had been updated but wasn't as reliable as it should have been. That's not competitive. People have to see the difference when they first put the camera to their face, don't you think?

It's probably easy to say "This is what we make. If you don't like it, buy something else." but what about people who buy into the system and are suddenly out of luck when they stop making equipment? The K-M people know this feeling very well. The Pentax people had their moment, also. I got a similar feeling in late 2006 when there was no E-1 replacement.
