Rude staff at SLS

Suggest to go to reputable store like CP if buy from SLS. I got "play out" by 2 of the stores before who claim to have stocks for 18-200mm VR selling like hot cakes last time (whereas most stores are out of stock). The stores quoted me a reasonable low price (versus exorbitant price by another store who really have the last piece) and then asked me to come back in an hour. After come back later with cash from ATM, the same guy either disappeared or say no more stock. I am pretty sure not a geniue mistake. Fuming mad for wasting my time and then disappointed for not getting it.

I work there:lovegrin: ......even i who know ppl there can't get a good price there. if buying from there check your price first. if price too cheap be careful.

Well .. tat says a lot about SLS doesn't it ? I was @ SLS yesterday and if i m not mistaken, there are more shops selling camera now compared to say a year ago.

I've got a bad experience at SLS, was accompanying my friend to look for his LCD monitor.. So I thought since I was there, I might as well ask for the prices of my upcoming camera too - D90 or D300.

Well, I know it's not the best place to shop for photo equipment, but I went ahead instead as I'm already there. Was quoted $2000 for the D90+kit, I was shocked beyond words (as I know it's around $1650). I told him it's expensive in a polite way.

He went, "How much you want?" Then I told him I don't know, and ask for his best price. He lowered down to $1800. I told him, still too expensive.

Guess what, he called his colleague and said,"eh, this guy thinks this price is expensive" and gave me the look. Like I'm a cheapo. First time, I encounter such service. After that shop, I gave up on SLS. Don't bother buying or even asking there at all.:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Honestly, I would rather pay extra for good service! Not extra for lousy service.

Very simple... if price not right just go lo... the staff already asked you how much you are willing to pay liao... you still want to play with him of course he fed up lah. :nono:

Well SLS is really not a good place to buy DSLR they wanted to charge me SB600 for $500
I believe john 316 is still the best shop even thier price is abit highter

There is AP & OP in SLS that I bought my camera stuff there.... :)

Normally I just go in, tell them what I want, if the price is right, test it on the spot and pay.... What other services do I need from them? :dunno:

OP and AP are the only 2 shops that I will buy my photographic equipment from. I will avoid the rest

Yup. The only 2 that I will go at SLS.

I once walked past the 2nd level with a rented L lens and one of the shop got this salesman was trying to offer me some stuff. I just gave him a freaking cold shoulder. Haha! :D

OP & AP at SLS:thumbsup:

Service is also whether you can check several copies of an article (lenses, filters etc.) or the sales guys just tells you off "Want to buy or just touch?"
When I went to OP I could pick camera bags, check them carefully, compare them (of course I hang them back) and chose the right one for me. All together close to 1h. Nobody bugged me whether I want to buy or not nor was there any weird look. I tried whether certain filters fit a pouch that I liked.. and finally Stanley showed me a different pouch that perfectly fit my purpose and needs and was well within my budget. That's service! Try the same at the levels below...
But that only works if customers honour this and not treating the sales guys just as information counter for benchmarking prices. Maybe that's the reason why the IT shops all have price lists now. Easy comparison if you know what you want.

I recommend u next time say this "eh everyone! this shop is conning ppl's money. Dishonest and rude!"
say all the bad things about them loudly :bsmilie:

I think with the current economic downturn, shops are having a hard time. Plus maybe better for you to just walk out after checking price is not right for you, rather than to comment on their price. Because it is a free market economy, you know willing seller, willing buyer? Not saying that they are right to be rude, these are sensitive times.:dunno:

no matter if it is good times or bad times, they still hv the same attitude

i wonder if there are any of them reading this

Buy from Allan Photo, so far I always buy from them and service is good. Look for Anthony.

sounds as if you have walked into each and every shop in SL to offer that sweeping generalization.......

Agree that there are bad eggs, but Allan Photo for instance, is quite a good shop.....

In case you are wondering, I am a consumer with no vested interest in saying this....

Was looking for a netbook and happened to shop at Funan before going to SLS. The model I was looking for had a CNY discount, RRP by the manufacturer. There were pamphlets on the offer price, and the freebies. The shops in Funan all (except 1 or 2) adhered to the RRP when I asked.

Thought I might be able to drive a bargain at SLS instead, or at least get some free RAM upgrade. One of the shops, manned by a few ah-bengs, quoted a much higher price. When I told them there was a promotion, at a lower price in Funan, that rude ah-beng could still said, "Then you go Funan to buy lor!". I walked out immediately. I found that many shops in SLS had the pamphlet, but still quote a higher price.

SLS is only good for computer parts/accessories. But then again, make sure you do your homework before buying.

I work there:lovegrin: selling CCTV and Telephone (home and Office). i agree with most ppl here. SLS buy computer product OK, but not electronic item like digital camera, TV etc. (always saw Police at shop bally and other shop on the 2nd floor) even i who know ppl there can't get a good price there. if buying from there check your price first. if price too cheap be careful.

Only a few shops there buy computer hardware can lah, the rest of the shops also the same 1:confused:

There are so many Ah beng and Ah seng at SLS, it reminds me of wolf in sheep's skin, if you are not aware, you will be slaughtered without mercy.

However, come to think of it, may be this is unavoidable as these group of people may not suitable for other jobs, so they have to end up in sales line which they find it easy to survive.(Shop owners at SLS cant care much as they need man power to man the shop). Just think of it, if you are the boss, will you employ those Ah beng and Ah seng?I am very sure with that kind of attitude and the way they portray themselves, I think the ans is obvious. NO

This is just my personal thoughts, not to offend anybody. If yes, my sincere apology. :)
