Is this the RS 60E3 you're referring to??
For $20, it's cheap.

Yupz, it's in an OEM package. Brand new except no box.

what about the wireless remote RC-1 or RC-5? Is it useless?
Actually, IMHO, the main function for the wireless RC-1 or RC-5 is for the photographer to take group photos with him/herself inside the photo. The photographer would be standing together with the group and pressing the wireless remote to trigger the shots. It sure beats having to run to and fro the camera to press the button to trigger the self-timing shots.

As for the wired RS-60E3, I'd think it's mainly to take night shots, fireworks, slow shutter-speed shots, etc. The photographer would usually be behind the camera (no more than 60cm or 2 ft away) when the shot is taken.

Between the 2, I'd prefer the wireless remote. It may be a little cumbersome to have to point the remote at the sensor but it also serves the function of the RS-60ES. YMMV.

I have both. IMHO the problem with using wireless remotes to perform the phototaking is the inability to preview the AF and Exposure settings during photo taking (There isn't any "half-shutter"). Unless you set it to MF and to M of course.

I would take the RS-60E3 instead since I seldom take grp photos pointing towards self :). And from HK, the wired remote is also cheaper! :D (RS-60E3 I bought for S$25 (HK$120) vs RC-1 S$34 (HK$160)

I always use my RS-60E3 when i mount my cam on my tripod. Very useful to eliminate any camera shakes.

Man, the prices in HK are half of that of SG.

HK seems a lots cheaper....perhaps the taxes here in SG are high.

Got it from my friend's shop, last piece and special price for me :D

OEM RS60E3 selling for $25 @ TCW (confirmed), $15 at MS Colour (I last heard)

Anyway I made my PDA into an IR Remote with some software. I can trigger either a 300D/350D/D70/s from 10m away (last tested). Works just like the RC1.

I dunno why, 350D not 100% reliable with IR remote. sometimes can sometimes cannot. Last time before the firmware upgrade it was lagi worse, work only 20% of the time. Now it's possibly due to my gaffer tapes.

Really? I seem to have the same problem as well. Thought it was the remote's battery. Helps if you go closer... but that kinda defeats the purpose of having a wireless remote. I'm using the RC-1 mainly as a remote shutter release for tripod shots... looks kinda ridiculous at times pointing that thing back at the sensor while standing BEHIND the camera!

LOL try use a mirror or something wor.. can reflect the IR beam one on glass/mirror;) then wun need to stand with hand in front..
Anyway if you read the canon site, the 350D firmware upgrade was mainly to fix the IR remote shutter problem (one whole firmware upgrade just to fix it). Anyway for me sometimes it doesn't even help if you go closer, muz switch through all the modes then it'll be ok again.. :(

Aiyah, called up TCW.. they wanted to charge me $30 for the OEM.
I think go HK then buy some other days. Buay song paying so near box version for the remote.

lol maybe coz i knew the pple there? hmmmm well tell them ur friend got it for $25? LOL anyway this one got box and instruction etc too. Just that not canon box. :)

Mine's just a packet with the remote and instructions, no box at all.

Sigh... why must they always try to jack up prices over the phone... can't they be like MScolor and be honest? This is one thing I detest about certain retailers (forgive me TCW fans, for I'm just voicing out my feelings) is that they push the price sky high then make you spend hours negotiating.
It's so "Sim Lim Square Ah Beng" practice...

P.S. ever tried "pressing calculators" in bangkok?

anyway try check out MS Colour. I'm quite sure someone in the forum mentioned 3rd party china remote that looks and work exactly like the original, except at $15. :)
Haha well it'll be good when you can negotiate. It's worse when they push it sky high and refuse to budge. Worse if you know that everywhere else is selling cheaper but you can't buy from them. *points to the 5D
:P

Well the basic functions of the remote is to trigger off the shutter and hold it in bulb mode.

i have used my RC-1 remote on my EOS 50/Elan II, sureshot G2 and now 350D doesn't have any problems at all.

oops.. thousand apology..didn't use it on the G2.
