I'm sure all owner of 2.8 always had a problem with finding cheap and practical lens cap.

For me, the lens hood is always attach to the taking lens, a piece of high density foam cut to the lens hood shape serves as the lens cap. On 1 side of the foam, use a folded gaffer tape to act as the handling for the foam.

For the viewing lens, partially cut a 46mm bino lens cap (Seng Cheong has it, just got 1 piece today). All 2.8 owners will know that you can't put on a lens cap and at the same time the lens hood, so this cut is mandatory.

So, with this DIY, no worries about lens scratches while you are trying to focus on the shoot.

Please show photos or diagrams and more detailed instructions.

I found some 46mm caps in my cabinet, not snap-on. I first placed a 49mm adapter on the taking lens together with a UV filter, and with a snap-on 49mm lens cap.

I then proceeded to perform slow surgery on one side of the 46mm cap until I had a gap enough to clear the obstruction from the 49mm adapter and be able to cover the viewing lens.

Now I can have the UV filter on permanently (and be able to add other filters when required, which is why I won't use the original Rollei UV filter), and able to cover both lenses.

Thanks for the tip !

Below is a picture, I need to get another 46mm cap, I was a bumbling intern when I performed the surgery here, got to learn to be a surgeon :)

Err.. the DIY caps may be effective, but they make the Rolleiflex look quite ugly leh

To each its own, for me it is practical, especially when you are doing street shooting. Try to take out the original lens cap, put on the lens shade, you may take some time.

Not a problem on Rolleiflex 3.5F:

I use two Bay II to E39 adapters on both viewing & taking lens (super ks, i know:bsmilie:).
The adapter can be seen on the viewing lens. After that, I can use all my Leica filters, 12549 metal hood (meant for M50/2.8 Elmar)
and can use the standard Leica metal lens cap on both viewing and taking lenses:

looks fine to me.
