I got one last weekend - a black rollei 35S (made in singapore), and cant stop admiring it since. It just blows my mind to think that it is made in singapore!

Are there any fellow rollei 35 fans out there to exchange notes on this little mechanical beauty?

.....

Yes... at a great price too.
Interesting as I found it in europe, and bringing it back to its birthplace in singapore.
:)

Nice.
I've a black 35S as well. Really really nice lens. Currently resting in the dry cabi while I figure out what to do about the battery.
But a lovely camera to do street with.

Yeah I liked the camera too. :) When I bring out, people will think is a compact digital point and shoot. I am still trying my best to judge close distances, I have problems with that. HOw do you do that?

Rangefinder_fan, as for the battery, you can use the alkaline version of the PX625, so far i dont really see exposure values off with my current camera with B&W. Maybe B&W have greater tolerance. If you are more particular and want to get Zinc air cell, the Wein cell is one of them. But they are hard to find in Singapore and is expensive. So far I tried the PX675, the smaller hearing aid battery which is also Zinc air. It works great. But the battery, you have to change every 3 months. Unless you take the battery out and seal it back with the plastic tab. Putting in the dry cabinet with the battery sucks the battery dry very very fast.

Hey.. I have a 35s too. Do u mind telling me where I can get the battery to try if mine's metering still works.. I love this camera, compact and sharp but using it with a light meter makes it not compact..

There's the xpan/Rf thing in here.. Can we Rollei35 users start something in here. This is a Made in Singapore camera. More meaningfull...

For the PX675, it is a hearing aid battery, you can get it in packs of four from 7-11 or NTUC super marts. Note that it is smaller than PX625, so you have to place it properly in the middle of the battery compartment before you screw the battery cap.
PX625 alkaline can be purchased at Sim Lim Square, level 2, shop name is Unicell. Other places also got sell, but beware of being a carrot head. I saw the same battery price ranging from $1.50 to $10!
Wein cell, by right should be the best of all can only be gotten from eBay from what I know.

Am on my first roll this week. Cant wait to see the results - so cant feedback yet on how to estimate focal distance.
I was informed that the focal distance can be set via a tab on the focusing ring. On my rollei 35S at least, the options range from 0.9m to infinity.
Am I wrong to assume that that is how one tries to focus with this camera?

Thanks sweat100.

I cheat sometimes when the light is low and using f2.8 by using my Olympus XA .

Hi, I too own a Rollei 35. On the distance scale u can see two distance settings (2 & 6m) in red color. If u r not sure of exact distance, setting to one of these markings (ie. 0.9-2m & 2-6m) will produce clear picture.

I would like to ask to set one of the distance. So I just point the 2m and 6 m scale to the center arrow? How about the aperture settings?

Yes, just align the center triangle (arrow ?) to 2m or 6m scale.
Aperture is independent of distance setting. To set aperture, u need to press a metal tab below the aperture wheel in order to turn the wheel for aperture selection. There is another rotating wheel (on the other side of lens barrel) for speed setting.

hi...

sorry to go OT.

I have two PX625 replacement batteries with me. One Wein Cell, and the other a regular one. Both are new from Freestylephoto... ping me if any of you want it. (price is cheap IMO I got it in with a lot of other stuff :D)

cheers

Here's my Rollei 35 Tessar - Made in Germany. Probably earlier the series made in Singapore.
Very very sharp lens.

Managed to find the original hood in Tokyo after some time.

Here's my Rollei 35 Classic. Made in Germany, probably one of the last batches.
It has a Sonnar lens, very nice too, and different from the Tessar lens.

It was way too expensive when I bought it some years ago, but it is a beauty.

Rollei 35 Classic is a commemorative model which is highly sought after by collectors. I believe it still can command a good price. They were the last batch of Rollei 35 which were assembled in their original Franke & Heidecke factory at Braunschweig. It has the superb Sonnar 2.8 HFT coated lens, hot shoe top(instead of bottom) mounted and lens release button relocated from top to the front, plus all the high quality materials used.
Your Rollei 35 made in Germany is also valued higher than those made in S'pore. But personally I think they are of the same quality.

Great shots! Designwise, it is stellar.
Hope there will be revival of interest in the rollei 35 in singapore.
