Rob Galbraith's analysis on 1DMk4 AF performance

After reading the replies, I am not convinced the 1D Mark 4 is good enough to capture sunrise and sunset.

The secret to great sunrise and sunset shots is knowing how to make the earth stop spinning! :bsmilie:

As is my usual practice before any new gear purchase, I'm a gonna wait for more user reviews over a period of at least 6 months post launch before I form any opinions, if I do.

Happy Lunar New Year guys!

Now that... is very good advice.

Time to hit Google for me!

:bsmilie:

no, the iso performance not good enough. you need iso 25,600 very clean to capture sunrise and sunset. it is very dark then. :bsmilie:

The ancient Aztecs and Myans knew about it ... but wait, they only had ISO -64 film and f/90 lenses to work with! :bsmilie:

Take care guys, family calls.

Yet another thread by the gear masturbators and measurebators. I'd doubt if any but Jed here have any serious professional experience with any camera system that extends in to sports or other areas where serious AF speed is needed.

It doesn't matter a single shred which body is the fastest, it's not like 99.9% of you are ever going to push a camera even close to its limits, especially most of the gear measurebators who do nothing but bellyache, whine, pout and whinge about everything that really doesn't matter where a camera system is concerned. I'd like to take a few of you out and see just how good you really are, manual focus lenses, 6fps motordrive and 36 exposures. Most of you would fail miserably.

Most of you aren't fit to call yourself photographers, instead you're spoiled little brats with no clue and behave like 5yr old schoolboys standing in a circle seeing who's got the longest d*ck.

Rant over.

The truth hurts, but the language used to reveal it adds insult. Why can't we be a more gracious society? Reading your last paragraph, let me tell you that I also spent 45 years with this beautiful art of photography and never knew a true photographer can be this crude.

You've obviously never heard the views of the likes of Fin Costello who is beyond rude on a regular basis as are many of the worlds top fashion photographers and press boys and girls. I simply bring it out to play when needed. Go read in the photography biz section to see the other side of my postings... if you dare that is.

You haven't been on this forum for 8 years and put up with the non stop drivel of the gear measurebators. I use language like this because it is designed to insult, to try to stop them in their tracks and force them to think. Such photographers do NOT use their intelligence, it gets suspended once anyone dares question their abilities and god help you if you give an honest answer they don't like.

I don't know if you work in the industry professionally or as a hobby, there's a world of difference both in attitudes and from specialisation to specialisation. When I was a cadet I was reduced to tears so many times by editors and so forth who called me a damn sight worse terms than I've ever used here. It's a tough world out there and I care passionately about the industry as a whole and that young aspiring photographers learn to be the best they can be as both an artist and businessman or woman as the case may be. I like many others who have a lot of experience will assist others in many ways including very honest and constructive critiques of their work, without the need to be crude or lewd. However I reserve the right to be offensive to idiots... it's what they rightly deserve when they start espousing drivel.

Oh, finally, see where I'm located, I'm not in Singapore, I am blessed that I can look with an unprejudiced eye.

There are many ways to skin a cat. I only quarrel with your language. You cannot make a wrong right with another wrong. To me, if all pro photographers are like you, then, I will count myself fortunate to be a hobbyist. Photography is such a beautiful art and one need not be a pro to appreciate it.

I agree there are many ways to skin a cat and mine is shock tactics

I'd rather have a civilised debate but with the measurebators that is impossible. You'll seldom see serious debate on techniques or methodologies here, let alone artistic vision or the more complex issues of composition for example. Why? I wish I had a simple answer to it, but that's the way it is.

I am wasting my time, goodnight.

Well...there is no point talking to people who feels that they are god in photography. Many years of experience doesn't mean anything if the experience have taught them to behave in such a manner. I feel sorry for the photojournalist industry if they produce people that cannot accept people who do not look up and worship them and take their words as gospel truth.:thumbsd:

ok just in case anyone is worried,

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/866879/2

scroll to page 3 of the thread theres a Bball shooter who says the focus sticks. then again maybe high school Bballers dont move as erratically as pros! (read the whole thread its interesting and the photography is cool)

and the bird shots are sweet in pages 1 and 2... gosh... wish i could do it with my erm 17-85 lens... then again only birds here are the two geese-like things that visit the river bank downstairs from where i live. and they barely move. lazy bums. and then there are the swans. which, again, dont seem to do much but paddle sleepily down the river...zzz..

wtf why is there sleet again. !@#$% weather

This is a technical equipment forum. photography techniques and art are supposed to be carried out in the other forums.

Exactly....nothing to worry about from what Rob has reported....He is just one of the many who tried the camera. Like I mention earlier....I take his review with a pinch of salt cos his website are mainly sponsored by Nikon. And some of the passionate defender of Rob are also Nikon users who have friends that uses Canon. So those following this thread I leave the judgement to your good self.

Too many OT post. Might as well I OT also. hahaha

Now I dare not upgrade my cam and lens anymore after reading this thread. Otherwise I go some photography event kana questioned by old birds and pros. "do you need 3.5fs?, your skill only entiltes you to 1 fps", "your pictures look so lousy, you still dare to use a dslr, change back to your point and shoot", "why you so noob yet still spend so much money on the latest equipment? come go outside I challenge you and xiasuei you with my canon A70"

Technologies does help alot in our photography, be it better pic IQ or convenience, if not I would be using SLR rather than DSLR. Btw, it is not wrong in comparing the the male reproductive organs as it is the same in comparing the sprint time(longer or shorter) of athletics in the Olympic or the position(stronger or weaker) of the soccer club in the EPL. I'm pretty sure all of didn't skip the age of 5 and went to 6 instead.

Whatever it is, at least everyone is enjoying what they are doing so lets stop this and enjoy a Happy Chinese New Year.

Cheers

In my humble, personal opinion, the best camera is the one in your hands. A comment of not much value to 'gearheads'; but think about it.

but the converse applies equally

In my humble personal opinion the best camera is the one which has the best picture quality. A comment of not much value to 'photographers'; but think about it.

hahaha. reasonable? maybe not to 'photographers' after all their 'reason' is wired differently. a higher level. and seriously they(gearheads) know what you are saying. but yea that said i completely agree with you. no camera=no shot. important to learn fundamentals. but its like how guys talk about cars you know? talk about horsepower acceleration etc. you dont see an F1 driver going "omg learn how to drive fast before you talk about cars". talking about specs can be enjoyable/a past time/coffee shop gossip. all of us indulge sometimes mah...:D

and happy chinese new year all :) year of tiger. thats why everyone so fierce today

escuse me sir? who say you can use camera? picture of sunset need to paint one you know.... and must make your own paint if not, not real artist :sweatsm:

In the future there won't be "photography" as we know it. Technology will take raw input from our retinas (bypass brain even) straight to printer over the Internet. So any discussion on current primitive technology is pointless.
