Nicely documented, enjoyed reading and viewing especially the star trails(good effort, especially in the cold).

By the way, did you shoot a picture of the kind hearted gentleman who gave you all a lift?

Wow, i love your photos. You are like depicting a true story, and i as a reader/viewer is literally brought to the places. There are twists to this "story" like the car being stuck. One of the best series i ever see. Oh yeah, excellent narration too.

Great pics & travellogue! The saturation seems a little high but its pleasing. Like many here, certainly brings back lots of memories for me. Been to Yosemite twice and was not into photography at that time (duh!). Would've loved to take that star trails shot! Well done!!

Thanks for sharing!

My gosh....great pics! I want to go to US again!

Side issue : Nissan Murano has no 4-wheel drive?

Wow so many replies suddenly. Looks like everyone enjoys watching an accident :bsmilie:

G-`FerRo, I was intending to fill up to 40GB, but due to the accident, quite a lot of photographic spots had to be missed. In fact for the scenic spots along the coastal roads I was at each spot for about 5 mins only (Drive and stop suddenly type of thing). In the end I only shot about 12GB, way lesser than expected. Brought along my 17-40, a 28-70 and a borrowed 70-200 from leinaj. Many shots would not have been possible w/o my ND and grad filters too. I had the polariser on pretty often, more to reduce glare than to get the blue sky since it was really blue already. Oh yeah, a blower is so important. The amount of dust I have on the sensor there in 1 day is more than what I get in 1 month in sg. Guess thats due to the dryness.

zaxh81, zha, psychomatic, Madmax thanks for compliments :)

grimes, thanks too! We did have a shot with him at Vegas, but it's on my friend's cam though.

nuts, thanks too! Well, you can always go there for a third time! For star trails, I would think that Grand Canyon would be even better and I was really hoping to shoot that there since I could set the tripod right outside my camping tent, easier to jaga. Too bad that didn't happen.

Madmax, the Nissan Murano has 4-wheel drive. It was really nice to drive since it was new, I could easily hit 160km/h on the highways. I'm not exactly sure why it skidded off, probably due to loose gravel. I wasn't driving then so I can't be sure. As for why we couldn't get the car out, the front left and right rear wheel were off the ground and no matter how we tried, we were just burning rubber.

14th July
Departed Washington and headed for New York via Greyhound. We arrived at an unearthly 3:30am and our apartment landlady was to meet us at only 12pm! Our solution was to camp at starbucks since we had all our luggage with us and it was too much to walk around with.

After dawn broke, I headed out to do what I came for again.

Saint Patrick's Cathedral. I'm a little swakoo when it comes to churches and catherals as I don't come into much contact with them as a free thinker. Anyway I really like the cathedral's architecture.

Front door. Man I could do with a TS lens!
088.jpg

I took this coz I thought it made quite a nice contrast.

Inside the cathedral.

Lovely arches.
091.jpg

Erm, part of a bench. I just like the way it looks.

In prayer.

What can I say. This catheral is beautiful!

Welcome back splutter, great travel photography, enjoyed going through them and certainly will revisit this mini gallery thread, please keep them coming. Ever thought of compiling them in a book for publishing?

Beautiful catheral, be it inside or outside!

Keep them coming.

;)

Cool.... OnE whole month for a road trip... How I wish ....
Great travel photos and journal, really enjoyed reading them...

Amazing, fabulous series. Makes me feel like packing my bags to go for such a trip - you lucky chaps.

I tot you got a 12-24WA. I tot that is pretty essential for travel. Was the 17-40 wide inuf?

Great pictures you got there!! :)

Few questions though:
- You mentioned that you used ND filters regularly as it was too bright. Were the filters used in addition to your CP filter?
- Was it safe to walk around with a DSLR in the cities? Did you feel unsafe?

 pics!
wish i can take 1 month off n go off just like that..

Saint Patrick's Cathedral..was it used in some movie where they had to defuse another nuke thingy?

care to share how much dmg the whole trip cost u?

Thanks Tulip123. If I do publish I'll make sure you get one :bsmilie:

Qazwer, ockly thanks! I'll keep the pics coming.

smallaperture, it's actually my first real trip in a long time. Haven't really been overseas for like 5 years. 17-40 was the widest lens I have. It's also the most used lens. However sometimes I tend to frame too loosely at 17mm.

nyxx88, the ND's were used when I want more motion in my shots. So I use whatever I have to cut light, inc the polariser. I'm not really that particular about the loss of quality, if any. However, at 17mm, if I stack filters, I can actually see the gel holder in frame, so I have to crop a little. Grads are also used to balance out the scene since I do include quite a bit of skies in my shots. Of course all these are more appliable when I am able to use my tripod, if not it can be pretty cumbersome.

syc77, you just need to find time to go! In fact, I still find 1 month too short to do proper photography. I'm not sure about the nuke thinggy. They do search your bags when you go in though. The entire trip cost about 5-6k, excluding damages incurred due to the car accident  We were able to save quite a bit on food and lodging since we share. The transportation kills though.

I concussed for the entire day since I only slept a total of about 8 hours for the past 4 days.

15th July
There is an incredible number of taxis in New York. So you'll get to see them in almost every shot if there's a road involved. They do get on your nerves quickly since they honk like mad.
095.jpg

Push cart selling roasted nuts. Pretty cheap by US standards. Peanuts go for $1 while others go for $2. In the morning the same spots are usually taken up by stands selling bagels and coffee. Come noon they magically disappear and are taken up by these folks.
096.jpg

More taxis. Sometimes the entire stretch of road is just yellow in colour.
097.jpg

All the hotdog stand display "The best hot dog in town". I'm pretty sure all of them are lying!
098.jpg

It's the first time in my life that I see this contraption. It's essentially like a 5 man bicycle where everyone sits in a circle. Apparently they are quite popular with tourist. And by that I mean those with tourist written all over their face.

16-17th July
I'm not too sure of the exact dates these photos were taken as we didn't do things according to plan.

Visited Chinatown! Plenty of fruits for sale at much lower prices as compared to convenience stores.
100.jpg

In Little Italy, just right above Chinatown. Souvenirs for sale.
101.jpg

In a district called Soho. The buildings have got this rustic look to them. I just liked how the bricks look in the evening sun.
102.jpg

A guy selling home made jewellery. He claims to be the only one selling this type of jewellery. I think he made a convincing story since both my female friends bought earrings.
103.jpg

I'm a sucker for cobblestone roads. I keep thinking I want to do a model shoot there.
104.jpg

What did I say about them cabbies?
105.jpg

In the metro. This underground subs are seriously lacking in hygiene, but is home to many folks who can't keep up with the pace of life in NY. I'm not referring to this guy of course.
106.jpg

18th July
Went to the richest part of NY - The financial district.

Towering offices
107.jpg

Can't believe i missed this thread- amazing coverage of the states-makes my heart itchy bro!:bsmilie:

Well done!

NY Stock Exchange! Rich bankers where are you?
108.jpg

The signature charging bull. He's really popular with tourist and gets ridden all day. Everyone touches his balls from behind too....
109.jpg

Wharf (Used to be) near Brooklyn Bridge. I'm not sure why this ship is berthed there but it doesn't actually seem to be sailable anymore.
110.jpg

Brooklyn bridge in the setting sun. I actually went to walk the whole of it later, just for the sake of being able to say I did.
111.jpg

Back to Times Square. Opps, forgot to mention that our apartment was just around the block here. Pretty good deal to be able to stay here. There's those cabs again!
