I am aware of the swirly bokeh summarit indeed but sometimes its too loud, comparing to the summicron i think the details just nice, like little small dots bokehs.

Would agree on that, swirly bokeh can be dizzy for some the character of some of these old lens are what I sought after even though need to do pp to bring out the colors.

Sorry haven't really ventured into this old lens yet, and don't tempt me with pictures when you get it, trying to keep the box at the current size :bsmilie:

fyi, i updated the post earlier with unprocessed colors just to show the difference, btw, i'm not that good at pp. it's easy to be turned off by some of this lenses if you look at the pictures ooc, but some pp does wonders. So some vintage lenses and their characters can be had at reasonable price (compared to the M mounts). And it's easy enough to adapt other mounts to M as well, I use OM, EOS quite a bit as well.

Sometimes we buy lens for other purposes like the bokeh , natural colors from the lens is usually not that good as the coating aint that good. So there's flaring but a few quick tweaks makes it works. unfortunately don't have a shot before PP. This is after. YMMV ;p

Btw, this is summarit 50/1.5 a very old lens.

Really arh, maybe my skills really no good :bsmilie: the shot after has more popping colors, for kids i prefer that way. perhaps a little tweak on shadows will brighten the face a little?

Attention goes to brighter place vs the dark I guess?
Maybe you can move up the luminance in orange if you are in Lightroom which usually brighten up the skin...

hmmm...f/3.5 - f/5.5! would prefer a faster lens, but may still consider if performance is good, at least can travel with a smaller package.

Ok, some more unprocessed ones from leica summarit 50/1.5

Here's one old cheap lens Jupiter 3 50/1.5 that flares alot as well, but this shot unprocessed is rather nice i think, has a nice glow to it.

50mm cron is gd stuff ..

as for me, after playing with the gxr for 2 weeks. i finally sold it , not becos the image quality sucks .. the shutterlag sucks . if my hipstamatic has no shutter lag , i dunno why my 1.25k camera has lag ??? anyone encounter this?

Is the lens hazy? seems to be scattering light...:think: but the swirling bokeh is nice.

Lord, you are making one of the most ridiculous comparisons ever.... :dunno: The Leica M9 is the most expensive full frame camera, yet it has some of the worst ever electronics ever. Yet people still buy the damn thing.

You sure it's not the camera user that's at fault? I haven't had much issues with the shutter lag, really. It's at most a few ms at best.

On a personal note I find the swirling bokeh too much distracting.:thumbsd:
Especially when the DOF is shallow.
