Ricoh GXR vs. Sony NEX-5N (and the M8) with manual lenses
Ricoh GXR vs. Sony NEX-5N (and the M8) - my opinion - Rangefinderforum.com

I don't really have experiences with Sony NEX to confirm that's the case, but my experiences with the Ricoh is it's definitely a Photographers' piece of engineering.

Another monochrome shot from the GXR.

Can't agree more that GXR is a fine pc of engineering, doesn't look that pro/classic, but it's ergonomically excellent, great colors & sharpness. Loving every moment using. Had 5N for 2 months, really didn't click well with me as much as the sensor was excellent for hi iso, though I still hope to see a Ricoh EVF as great as Sony's. Recently twisted the EVF more than 90deg, had to sent to Ricoh agent in HK to change as they can't fix it here/there. Took a few shots at RWS flora festival without EVF, surprisingly, still usable, was trying to use more of focus assist mode 2.

All taken with leica leitz 50/1.5 summarit wide open.

Nice shots!

Swirly bokeh, wonglp!! Classic! ... Looks like everyone's been down at the Flower Fest.

I usually brought the EVF along, but when I didn't use it, I thought the focus assist really helped on the 3" LCD screen, and it's pretty easy to nail focus.

Best thing about GXR, and possibly most Mirrorless Cams, is the ability to mount some of the oldest lenses you can find, and enjoy the images it's able to take on.

1 here with a very old ltm lens to share ... bokeh is very personal thing. Some like it super duper smooth, some like it swirly, some object "busy" oof areas. I kinda like the painterly feel of this one. Unfortunately, it's not a macro lens.

Certainly a killer LTM lens that I would like to have too but the price forbids it ;p I bought my OM 50/1.4 to test against the leitz but forgot the adapter to mount on gxr, so had to use on my pen instead ytd, haiz. It's also a painterly lens at a fractional price, just a tad bulkier.

Kipon quite reasonably priced. Can get those. I mentioned macro cos' it'll allow us to get closer to the object. I think it's going to be fun with the GXR. These LTM lenses closest focus distance is closer to 3 ft or more, but the large aperture certainly help to isolate the object. ;-)

using a lens that i hardly use... :)

A friend of mine asked me this question

"Why would anyone want to buy a Ricoh GXR, A12 and a nikon adapter, to mount a Nikon lens? why can't they just buy a nikon body instead?"

To all fellow GXRers, how would you answer his question?

For me it's to complement my Nikon body, don't always wana carry a heavy bulky DSLR. :)

To add on to motionstills.

Perhaps these are some advantages I can think of:

- Its easier to focus with EVF and focus assist and magnification with GXR.
- Portability
- No AA (anti-aliasing filter), which means the picture can be sharper, though I don't own Nikon DSLR. Perhaps motionstills can give his views?
- With M mount flange focal distance of 27.8mm, it's also possible to mount many other SLR lenses that's longer than that. Nikon F mount is 46.5mm, so not many non Nikon lenses can be mount on it.
- Ability to mount M lenses directly, after all, they are typically smaller, lighter than DSLR/SLR equivalent lenses. It also means exact infinity focusing which is useful for landscape shoot. Even ultra wide angle lens is very small, here's an example, it's actually an LTM lens, adapter is easily found for it to M. So one can carry couple of lenses with ease, try doing the same on Nikon DSLR.

Whether these r advantage to him, only he can answer that :)

Well it all matters when the images is nice. Does it matters which camera to use? ^^ as long as the combo is comfortable to one usage i dun see why not hehe

The GXR A16 zoom module is finally announced today! As expected, it is not of constant aperture but f/3.5 - 5.5. It is thicker and longer than the 50mm module. It does not have VC as with the S10 and P10 modules. It does not feature GR lens like the previous A12 modules. It will be available in late March.

Do u guys find the shuttle lag a big problem? As it seems sony is doing better on this

Hey guys, I'm new into Ricoh's system and am from the Canon DSLR and m4/3 arena. Just wanna clarify my doubts here and hopefully some forumers can shed some light:

1) The GXR allows interchangeable modules much like how m4/3 allows interchangeable lenses?

2) In layman's terms, the CX and G series are Ricoh's line up of compact cameras?

3) Module-wises, it is a choice between the "primes" A12 28mm/50mm f2.5 versus the "zooms" S10 & A16?

If my assumption no. 3 is right, which is will be your first module to purchase to pair with your GXR, considering you don't have legacy lenses?

GXR modules includes both sensor and lenses. m43 allows interchangable lenses. For the modules, you can choose any of them that's on sale. The primes are usually paired with APS-C sensor, and the zooms with the smaller sensors you usually get from compacts. The only zoom that's APS-C is A16 and that's not out yet. So it really depends on what you want. IQ, Convenience, Macro etc...

CX and G shd be the compact line.

Hey thanks for the reply. Just to check if I'm on the same page, from my own tongue, so for Ricoh it'll be the body (GXR) + the modules (50 / 24-72/ 28-300/ 28/ 24-85) right? Out of these modules, the APS-C ones are 50mm, 28mm and 24-85mm. The other two are CMOS sensors.

Assuming I'm sticking to the APS-C modules (plus I like primes), can I assume that the crop factor of these modules be 1.6X then? So I'll get 50X1.6 and 28X1.6 respectively?
