Ricoh GR

Just bought the Ricoh GR. My first Ricoh cam and can't wait to go on the streets with it. Yay!
May I know where u get it from? All shops in Funan were out of stock when I checked ytd, only John 3:16 has it. Cathay also sold out.

Oh I just got it at ms colours. Last set. But I reserved it in the afternoon. Oh then why not get from John 316? Nice people there.

Contemplating between this and the grd iv which is really cheap now. ;)

I have the 3 n 4. But seriously, at the price of 390, u can accesorize it n it will be almost as good as GR. There is just a huge craze over GR right now. Snapping up at most stores.

ic. well, if you're on a budget then get the ricoh grd iv. if you have set aside cash for the gr then go get it. It really depends on your preference.

Similar observation with me though not as bad as yours.

This was shot in RAW and processed with SilkyPix which unfortunately does not have a colour moire removal function. Yes it could be reduced substantially if the raw file is converted in-camera using the built-in colour moire removal but that's not the point. It should be removable also using the raw conversion software that's provided by Ricoh.

Just for comparison, the Nikon Coolpix A also has no AA filter. There is also greater propensity for the formation of colour moire under the right conditions but it is not as bad as that exhibited by the GR. Take for example, a 100% crop comparison of the offending portion of the ION Orchard façade by the 2 cameras...

Maybe that's the price you pay for having a sharper lens. :dunno:

Wah! Super jialat!
Have yet to exerience such colourful moire. Certainly spoil the picture!

Hmm. Are these 2 pics taken with same settings. Colour Moire aside, feel that the one taken by the Nikon is sharper. Especially the trees at the top. More details.

There are really good compacts around, the recent ones being the DP1M, Coolpix A, and there is GR. All 28mms, All are good cameras with some form of compromise. You choose the one that works best for you. After that you go make your images and have some fun with it.

I am enjoying my purchase. I hope you will too. ;-)

If you wish to experience the pleasure of getting such colourful moire, take your GR down to Orchard Rd and shoot this building ;)
Guarantee that you would get your wish. The façade of ION Orchard is a moire-magnet for cameras without AA filters. Even the Sigma DP1M and 2M will get some moire shooting this building, though not the colourful type like the GR, more like those of the Coolpix A.

No. They were taken on different days, different time of day and at different exposure settings.

In Malaysia, the set after special promo discount is S$349.

You mean GV-2 is S$230?

Hi yes, the GV2 is $230 SGD converted here in Japan, at least at Yodobashi Shinjuku. So is the GV1......

Wow the set is expensive in Malaysia - by set you mean GH3 + GW3?

I finally got the GH3 + GW3 together in Japan - found that Map Camera is even cheaper than Yodobashi - and after tax rebate, I paid a total of $274 SGD (total was 21220 yen).

Seems like Ricoh accessories are cheaper in Japan than Singapore / Malaysia! (the body only though is slightly higher at 1100+++)

Wa, this price is good. Sometimes not abt price, it is more like if u can grab them 1st in local stores.

yeah! see my post above - I finally gave in and bought the combo (GH3 + GW3) for even lower at MAP camera.....

Some one better find you to bring back some for sale at BnS! :P

How does the tax rebate works?

haha well the SGD price is not known yet right? It still might be lower, though judging from the price of the GV1/2..... it's unlikely :P

the tax rebate is instant - show passport, they fill up the form on their end and minus off the tax instantly - you pay the new lower price. No need to go airport to claim etc. Works much better this way!

Looks like you got the set at right price already, I am deciding between spending money for GV-1 or this GW3 + GH3 set.

Wa! That means can claim for every single thing, like FF cam and computer. No wonder life is good.

As far as I understand, the moire will depend on the relative ratio between the size of the captured details and the sensor pixel size, the angle with the sensor plane and the lens sharpness. Changing lens sharpness or ratio or angle of shooting will help to reduce that problem. Compare Coolpix A and Ricoh (or other camera) will be not that straight forward because of different crop factor and different actual lens focal length. Each none AA filter camera will have unique combination of those that cause the most significant moire problem!

Coolpix A and GR have the same sensor size (probably the same sensor too) and their lenses are of the same focal length. ;)

Nope! They are having different crop factor and actual focal length! ;)

You are right. NCA is 18.5mm with APS-C (23.6 x 15.7 mm) and Ricoh GR is 18.3mm with APS-C (23.7 x 15.7 mm). ;)
